SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A San Antonio man has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison after admitting to racketeering and multiple child exploitation offenses connected to a violent online extremist network that federal authorities say targeted vulnerable minors through coercion, abuse, and psychological manipulation.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Alexis Aldair Chavez, 19, also known online as “Zack” and “Zack8884,” was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison, followed by lifetime supervised release, and was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to victims.
Federal prosecutors said Chavez served as an administrator and online leader of the 8884 network, a criminal online group associated with the 764 network, which investigators identify as part of a broader Nihilistic Violent Extremist (NVE) movement.
Authorities describe these networks as decentralized online communities whose members promote violence, social collapse, and widespread instability. Rather than operating like traditional terrorist organizations with centralized leadership, these groups often rely on encrypted messaging platforms, gaming communities, and social media to recruit vulnerable individuals, particularly children and teenagers.
According to court records, members of the 8884 network collaborated to psychologically manipulate and exploit minors through intimidation, extortion, and sustained online abuse. Investigators said the group’s criminal activities included forcing victims to engage in acts of self-harm, sexual exploitation, animal cruelty, violence, and other degrading behavior, often while recording the abuse for distribution within the network to gain status among other members.
Federal investigators determined that in October 2023, Chavez and a co-conspirator attempted to coerce a minor female victim into taking her own life during a live video call by overdosing on pills. According to prosecutors, the incident was recorded so it could be circulated within the extremist network as violent content intended to elevate the participants’ standing among other members.
Approximately two months later, investigators said Chavez and the same victim worked together under coercive circumstances to manipulate another female victim living outside the United States into stripping on camera, inflicting injuries upon herself, and performing sexually explicit acts. Court documents further state that another victim was extorted into carving the name “Zack” into her own body.
Authorities said the abuse escalated further near the end of December 2023.
According to prosecutors, Chavez and another co-conspirator forced a minor female victim to cut her tongue and torture and kill a cat during a live video call. Investigators also documented additional incidents in which victims were compelled to ignite their own skin, causing serious burns while the abuse was recorded for distribution within the network.
Court records describe another victim being coerced into drinking her own urine and attempting to overdose on unknown pills under threats and psychological pressure from members of the extremist group.
Federal investigators said Chavez also participated in grooming and extorting multiple additional minor victims through repeated threats, manipulation, and demands for increasingly violent and degrading acts.
On January 23, 2024, prosecutors said Chavez and a co-conspirator threatened another minor female victim into participating in sexually explicit conduct and other abusive acts before federal authorities ultimately identified the network and began dismantling its operations.
Chavez was arrested on October 24, 2024, and later pleaded guilty on December 19, 2025, to one count of racketeering, one count of distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and one count of possession of child sexual abuse material.
Racketeering charges are commonly used in cases involving organized criminal enterprises whose members commit multiple coordinated criminal acts. In this investigation, federal prosecutors alleged that Chavez’s conduct formed part of an organized online enterprise dedicated to exploiting children and promoting acts of violence and abuse.
Federal authorities describe Nihilistic Violent Extremist (NVE) networks as online communities driven by a desire to spread chaos, violence, and societal collapse rather than advancing a single political or ideological objective. Law enforcement agencies have increasingly identified these decentralized groups as emerging threats because they actively recruit minors through online platforms, messaging applications, gaming services, and social media.
Investigators say these networks frequently rely on blackmail, emotional manipulation, and extortion after initially establishing online relationships with vulnerable victims. Once compromising images, videos, or personal information are obtained, victims may face escalating threats designed to force continued compliance.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned that parents and guardians should remain actively involved in their children’s online activities, particularly on gaming platforms, encrypted messaging applications, social media, and livestreaming services where offenders often attempt to initiate contact.
Warning signs may include sudden secrecy surrounding online communications, unexplained emotional distress, self-harm, requests for money, threats involving personal images, or unusual interactions with unknown online contacts. Federal authorities encourage parents to maintain open communication with children and promptly report suspected online exploitation to law enforcement.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation San Antonio Field Office with assistance from the FBI Washington Field Office.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark Roomberg and Bill Harris for the Western District of Texas, along with Trial Attorneys Justin Sher and James Donnelly of the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, Counterterrorism Section.
The prosecution was also brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative focused on identifying offenders who exploit children through the internet, rescuing victims, and coordinating investigations among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Federal officials continue to emphasize that online extremist networks targeting children remain an evolving public safety threat. Investigators encourage parents, educators, and caregivers to stay informed about children’s online activities and report suspected exploitation immediately so law enforcement can intervene before additional victims are harmed.

This 19 year old was an administrator and online leader and guilty of all of this? This is so sad. A sentence of 40 years in federal prison, followed by lifetime supervised release, is no joke. This is serious business and I’m glad the lifetime supervision was added to the sentence. It’s sad that someone is going to have to keep track of this young man for the rest of his life. It was hard to read some of the things this guy is guilty of but I appreciate the thorough reporting.
“Federal authorities describe Nihilistic Violent Extremist (NVE) networks as online communities driven by a desire to spread chaos, violence, and societal collapse rather than advancing a single political or ideological objective.”
It is an understatement to say that a person is lost when the objective in life is to create chaos. This young man will be spending prison time that is twice the amount of years he has lived, a long time to reevaluate his actions. I appreciate the work done by those who helped bring this young man to justice. I pray that he turns to God to help him regain some semblance of decency and humanity. Going back and sincerely asking everyone he has harmed for forgiveness might not be well received by all but it really is something that should eventually be done.
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris.
This was certainly one of the more disturbing cases I’ve reported on. The court documents made it clear just how calculated and prolonged the exploitation was, particularly because so many of the victims were vulnerable minors who were manipulated through fear, coercion, and psychological abuse.
One thing that stands out in cases like this is how these online extremist networks can influence individuals from behind a screen while operating across multiple countries. It underscores the challenges investigators face in identifying those responsible and protecting potential victims before even more harm occurs.
I also appreciate the work of the investigators and prosecutors who dedicated countless hours to bringing this case before the court. Cases involving child exploitation and violent extremist networks are often lengthy and complex, requiring cooperation between multiple agencies to identify victims, gather digital evidence, and hold those responsible accountable.
Thank you again for reading the article and for leaving a thoughtful comment, Chris. It’s always greatly appreciated. I hope you have a great night and a great day ahead. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and I appreciate your response. “Disturbing” is a great word to describe this article. It, indeed, stands out in “cases like this how these online extremist networks can influence individuals from behind a screen while operating across multiple countries.” I can see why cases like this might be very challenging for investigators. Investigators like that definitely earn their keep.
Thank you again for this article and for your appreciated comment. I hope you have a great day ahead as well!😊
