ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Shiprock man is facing a federal carjacking charge after allegedly threatening one victim with a handgun and forcing two people from a parked sport utility vehicle before driving away.
Cordalle Landon White, 41, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, is accused of committing the armed carjacking in Shiprock on September 28, 2022.
According to court documents, White allegedly approached two people who were occupying a parked SUV. He is accused of pointing a handgun at one of the victims, threatening to shoot her, and ordering both occupants out of the vehicle.
After the two victims exited the SUV, White allegedly entered the vehicle and drove away from the scene.
Navajo Police Department officers later recovered the stolen SUV in Cudei, New Mexico. Officers found a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.
During the investigation, one of the victims identified White from a photographic lineup. Investigators also recovered DNA evidence from the handgun that was later linked to White.
White has been charged with carjacking and will remain in custody while awaiting trial. A trial date has not been scheduled. If convicted, White faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and FBI Albuquerque Field Office Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris announced the charge.
The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Marshall is prosecuting the case.
White has been charged through a criminal complaint, which contains the government’s allegations at this stage of the proceedings. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
