HIGH-RANKING CLAN DEL GOLFO MEMBER SENTENCED TO 150 MONTHS FOR COCAINE TRAFFICKING CONSPIRACY

WASHINGTON — Aimer Alberto Alvaran Posada, a high-ranking member of the Western Bloc of Clan del Golfo, has been sentenced to 150 months in federal prison for participating in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy intended to supply the United States.

Alvaran Posada, 52, of Colombia, received the sentence on July 28, 2026. The 150-month prison term is equivalent to 12 years and six months.

According to court documents, Alvaran Posada occupied a senior position within Clan del Golfo, also known as CDG, a Colombian paramilitary and multibillion-dollar transnational criminal organization that finances its paramilitary activities through cocaine trafficking.

In 2018, Alvaran Posada conspired with other CDG members to produce 500 kilograms of cocaine for sale to Mexican buyers. He knew, intended, and had reasonable cause to believe that the cocaine was destined for the United States.

The planned quantity amounted to approximately 1,102 pounds of cocaine. Alvaran Posada’s involvement extended beyond attending meetings or facilitating contact between other members of the organization. He obtained approval from the commander of CDG’s Northern Bloc, where the cocaine transaction was expected to occur, and presided over multiple meetings used to coordinate the deal.

Authorities seized approximately 363 kilograms of cocaine during the operation that led to Alvaran Posada’s conviction. That seizure represented more than 800 pounds of cocaine removed from the trafficking operation.

His position within Clan del Golfo placed him close to the organization’s command structure. During the conspiracy, Dairo Antonio Úsuga David, the former leader of CDG, informed Alvaran Posada that he was being considered to command the organization’s Western Bloc.

The proposed promotion would have placed Alvaran Posada in control of an extensive network of subordinates. It would also have given him authority to establish cocaine prices and determine who could produce and transport cocaine within territory controlled by the Western Bloc.

Alvaran Posada was arrested in 2021 pursuant to the charges filed against him in the United States. He was subsequently extradited face prosecution in the United States.

He pleaded guilty to cocaine trafficking conspiracy on August 27, 2025. His conviction established his responsibility for the planned transaction and his role in coordinating the conspiracy.

The Department of State designated Clan del Golfo as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on December 16, 2025. That designation occurred after the 2018 cocaine conspiracy and reflected the federal government’s broader treatment of CDG as both a transnational criminal organization and a designated terrorist organization.

Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of the FBI Miami Field Office announced the sentence.

The FBI Miami Field Office investigated the case. The Colombian National Police, the FBI’s Office of the Legal Attaché in Bogotá, the Department of Justice’s Office of the Judicial Attaché in Bogotá, and the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs provided critical support.

Trial Attorney Douglas Meisel of the Criminal Division’s Money Laundering, Narcotics and Forfeiture Section prosecuted the case. The Office of International Affairs provided significant assistance with the international components of the prosecution.

The case forms part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative established by Executive Order 14159, “Protecting the American People Against Invasion.” The initiative brings federal agencies and international partners together against criminal cartels, foreign gangs, transnational criminal organizations, and human smuggling and trafficking networks operating in the United States and abroad.

The seizure disrupted a planned 500-kilogram cocaine transaction, but the prosecution reached further into Clan del Golfo’s leadership structure. He pleaded guilty, was convicted, and has now received a sentence of 150 months in federal prison for his role in the cocaine trafficking conspiracy.
