ILLINOIS MAN SENTENCED TO 33 YEARS FOR ARMED BURGER KING ROBBERY AND MULTI-COUNTY POLICE CHASE

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — An Illinois man has been sentenced to 33 years in federal prison for an armed robbery at an Indianapolis Burger King that led to a high-speed police pursuit across multiple counties and the recovery of a loaded handgun that had been thrown from the getaway vehicle.

Cameron Love, 28, of Rockford, Illinois, was sentenced to 33 years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. A federal jury convicted Love in February 2026 of interference with commerce by robbery, brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge James P. Hanlon.

According to court documents, Love entered the Burger King at 7620 North Shadeland Avenue on January 16, 2025, carrying a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun.

Love paced in front of the restaurant counter before pulling the firearm from his coat pocket and pointing it at an employee. He threatened to kill the workers if they did not open the registers.

Love then climbed over the counter while continuing to point the handgun at employees and threatening anyone who resisted. He took $459 from the restaurant and fled in a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Michael Scott.

An employee immediately called 911 and provided police with a description of Love and the vehicle.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department located the Cruze and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near 86th Street and Keystone Avenue. The vehicle did not stop, beginning a high-speed pursuit that crossed multiple counties.

The fleeing Cruze struck another vehicle during the pursuit. Dash-camera footage captured Love throwing both the stolen money and the handgun from the vehicle while police continued the pursuit.

The chase eventually ended in Carmel.

Four days later, IMPD officers located the loaded Smith & Wesson handgun near a bicycle path on 106th Street. The firearm had become frozen in ice and was protruding from accumulated snow when investigators recovered it.

The case also involved threats against the Burger King employees after the robbery.

When employees were later asked to identify Love as the robber, Love threatened the victims while standing beside a law-enforcement officer, telling them not to say anything and threatening to kill them.

Both victims ultimately testified during Love’s federal trial and addressed their experience despite those threats.

Love was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm because of multiple prior felony convictions.

His criminal record included an aggravated robbery of a gas station in which he held a clerk at gunpoint and assaulted him, along with a separate armed robbery conviction in Illinois.

The January 2025 Burger King robbery occurred only three months after Love had been released on parole following a 15-year sentence for aggravated robbery and a six-year sentence for armed robbery.

U.S. Attorney Tom Wheeler for the Southern District of Indiana said Love’s return to armed violence only months after his release demonstrated the danger he posed to the public. Wheeler credited the responding law-enforcement agencies and the victims whose testimony helped prosecutors secure the conviction.

FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O’Malley said Love terrorized restaurant employees, threatened their lives, and endangered additional members of the public during the police pursuit. O’Malley also credited the victims for testifying despite the threats directed against them.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case.

Love’s co-defendant, Michael Scott, was sentenced in October 2025 to four years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to acting as an accessory after the fact.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Pamela Domash for the Southern District of Indiana.
