SHARON MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FENTANYL TRAFFICKING AND FIREARM OFFENSE

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A 27-year-old Sharon, Pennsylvania, resident has pleaded guilty to federal narcotics and firearm charges after admitting that he possessed fentanyl with intent to distribute and possessed a firearm in furtherance of that drug trafficking crime.

Jiemaliahl Cleveland pleaded guilty to two counts before U.S. District Judge Robert J. Colville in the Western District of Pennsylvania, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The case centers on conduct from December 23, 2025.

According to information presented to the court, Cleveland possessed a quantity of fentanyl with the intent to distribute it and also possessed a firearm in furtherance of that trafficking offense. His guilty plea establishes criminal responsibility for both federal counts.

Federal law treats possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime as a separate offense from the underlying narcotics violation. In Cleveland’s case, prosecutors said the combination of fentanyl trafficking and the firearm charge exposes him to a total sentence of not less than five years and up to life in federal prison.

The court may also impose a fine of up to $1.25 million.

Cleveland’s actual sentence has not yet been determined. Judge Colville scheduled sentencing for January 6, 2027. Under the federal sentencing process, the court will consider the seriousness of the offenses, Cleveland’s criminal history if any, the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other statutory sentencing factors before imposing punishment.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office did not disclose in its announcement how much fentanyl Cleveland possessed, the type of firearm involved, where the drugs and weapon were recovered, whether the case resulted from a traffic stop, search warrant, controlled purchase, or another investigative method, or whether additional defendants were involved.

Those details remain outside the public account released by federal prosecutors.

The case forms part of a broader pattern of federal enforcement in western Pennsylvania involving the combination of narcotics trafficking and firearms.

On the same day Cleveland’s guilty plea was announced, the Western District of Pennsylvania also reported that a West Mifflin man pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. That case involved an undercover drug purchase, intercepted communications, and the recovery of crack cocaine and a firearm during a residential search.

Federal prosecutors in the district have also recently secured prison sentences in separate Sharon-area cases involving armed drug trafficking.

In July, a Sharon resident was sentenced to seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to cocaine trafficking and possessing a firearm in furtherance of that offense. In September, a former Sharon resident received six years in prison for cocaine-base trafficking, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime, and unlawful firearm possession following a prior felony conviction.

Cleveland’s prosecution was investigated by the Mercer County Drug Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig W. Haller is prosecuting the case on behalf of the federal government.

The multi-agency investigation reflects the enforcement structure often used in western Pennsylvania narcotics cases, combining local drug-task-force intelligence with state and federal investigative authority.

Cleveland’s guilty plea means the case has moved beyond the allegation stage as to the two offenses he admitted. What remains unresolved is the sentence.

When he returns to federal court in January, Judge Colville will determine how much time Cleveland will serve within the statutory framework applicable to his fentanyl trafficking and firearm convictions.
