FBI INCREASES REWARD TO $5,000 IN SEARCH FOR ARMED SUSPECT IN TOPEKA KFC ROBBERY

TOPEKA, Kansas — The FBI Kansas City Field Office covers the entire state of Kansas, with its Topeka Resident Agency responsible for Shawnee County and numerous other counties across the region.

The robbery occurred on August 19, 2025, at approximately 9:19 p.m. at the KFC located at 3920 Southwest 21st Street.

Investigators say an unidentified man entered the restaurant on foot carrying a handgun, confronted employees, and demanded money. After the robbery, the suspect fled the business on foot and traveled north.

The Topeka Police Department and FBI are jointly investigating the case.

The FBI describes the suspect as an adult male with a medium complexion, approximately 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with distinctive bright blue-green eyes.

At the time of the robbery, he was reportedly wearing khaki pants, black dress shoes, light gray gloves, a gray hoodie, a ball cap, and a full ski mask. Investigators said he was carrying a black-and-chrome handgun.

Surveillance images released in connection with the investigation show the masked individual moving through employee areas of the restaurant while wearing clothing consistent with that description.

The latest reward increase marks another effort by federal and local investigators to generate information more than a year after the robbery.

The FBI initially announced a $3,000 reward in November 2025 seeking information that could identify the suspect. That earlier FBI notice contained additional details concerning what occurred inside the restaurant.

According to the FBI’s wanted notice, the armed man spoke both English and Spanish during the robbery and violently assaulted at least one employee by striking the victim in the head multiple times with the handgun before fleeing.

Those details place the case beyond a simple theft of money. The incident involved an armed confrontation inside an occupied business and physical violence against an employee.

The suspect’s appearance, clothing, distinctive eye color, language use, approximate height and weight, firearm, direction of travel, and the released surveillance footage all remain potential identifying evidence for investigators.

Investigators have not publicly identified a suspect, and the surveillance images do not establish the identity of the person shown.

The case remains open.

The FBI’s increased reward now offers up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of whoever was responsible.

More than a year after the gunman walked into the restaurant, threatened employees, assaulted at least one worker, and disappeared on foot, investigators are again turning to the public in an effort to put a name to the masked figure captured on surveillance cameras.
