OPERATION TRIPLE BEAM-PROLIFIC ENDS WITH 237 ARRESTS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A five-week federal, state and local law enforcement operation targeting violent fugitives, firearms offenders and narcotics-related suspects in southern New Mexico has concluded with 237 arrests and the seizure of firearms, cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Operation Triple Beam-Prolific ran from August 24 through September 25 and was led by the U.S. Marshals Service District of New Mexico through the Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team, known as SWIFT. The operation brought together the Las Cruces Police Department and multiple federal, state and local agencies in a concentrated effort to identify and apprehend violent offenders and disrupt criminal activity linked to firearms and narcotics.

Authorities reported 237 arrests, 17 firearms seized, two vehicles recovered, 54 grams of cocaine seized, 403.4 grams of methamphetamine and 110 grams of fentanyl. The operation focused on known violent offenders and individuals wanted on outstanding warrants while giving federal prosecutors additional opportunities to identify conduct that could support federal prosecution.

Operation Triple Beam-Prolific used a multi-agency enforcement structure centered on violent fugitives, firearms offenders and narcotics-related offenders. Participating federal, state and local agencies combined resources and shared information as part of the coordinated effort.

U.S. Marshal David Barnett said the results reflected the strength of law enforcement partnerships across New Mexico. The coordinated structure allowed participating agencies to concentrate resources on known violent offenders while sharing information across participating agencies.

FBI Albuquerque Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris said Operation Triple Beam-Prolific demonstrated the value of agencies working toward a common objective and sharing information across organizational lines. The FBI was one of several federal agencies participating in the operation.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison said the operation also gave federal prosecutors additional opportunities to review serious criminal conduct for possible federal prosecution.

Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration also supported the operation at the federal level, while state and local participation included the Las Cruces Police Department, New Mexico State Police, New Mexico Corrections Department and the Office of the Third Judicial District Attorney.

New Mexico Corrections Department Adult Probation and Parole Director Lupe Sanchez said officers assigned to the department’s Security Threat Intelligence Unit accounted for 27 arrests involving justice-involved individuals who were on warrant status. Those officers also recovered a firearm and seized illegal drugs during the operation.

DEA El Paso Special Agent in Charge Robert “Eric” Castañeda said the agency assisted with the narcotics component of the operation, while HSI El Paso Acting Special Agent in Charge Ryan G. McRae emphasized the value of combining investigative capabilities across agencies.

Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story said the operation sent a message that violence and disorder would not be tolerated in the community. New Mexico State Police Chief Matthew Broom also credited the coordinated effort with demonstrating what law enforcement agencies can accomplish when they work together across local, county, state and federal levels.

Doña Ana County District Attorney Fernando R. Macias said fugitive apprehension is a necessary step before prosecutors can move cases forward and pursue justice for victims.

The 237 arrests represent the most visible result of the five-week operation, but Triple Beam-Prolific extended beyond arrest totals. The operation combined fugitive apprehension, firearms recovery, narcotics enforcement, probation and parole participation and potential federal prosecution under one coordinated effort.

The seizure totals also show the operation was not limited to locating wanted individuals. Officers recovered 17 firearms and two vehicles while removing more than half a kilogram of combined cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl from circulation.

Operation Triple Beam-Prolific concluded September 25 after five weeks of coordinated enforcement activity across southern New Mexico. Cases developed during the operation may still be reviewed for additional federal prosecution where prosecutors determine that an appropriate federal case exists.
