DETROIT, MICHIGAN — The FBI’s Detroit Field Office and its law enforcement partners have announced the results of Operation Summer Heat 2.0 in Michigan, reporting 177 arrests, the recovery of 66 weapons, the seizure of more than 77 kilograms of illegal drugs, and the location of 21 children during a coordinated nationwide operation targeting violent crime, fugitives, and criminal organizations.
The Michigan results were released October 19, 2026, following a federal enforcement initiative that ran from June 1 through September 20. All 56 FBI field offices participated alongside federal, state, local, and international law enforcement partners, combining investigative resources to pursue violent offenders, execute outstanding warrants, disrupt criminal networks, and identify vulnerable children.
According to the FBI Detroit Field Office, participating agencies recovered 66 weapons and seized 77.2 kilograms of drugs during the operation. The bureau also confirmed that 21 children were located through investigative efforts conducted in Michigan. The announcement did not identify the children, describe the individual circumstances surrounding their cases, or provide a breakdown of the criminal offenses associated with the 177 arrests.
Jennifer Runyan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, emphasized the importance of cooperation among law enforcement agencies across Michigan. Runyan credited the combined work of FBI personnel and their partners for the arrests, drug seizures, weapons recoveries, and efforts to locate children during the initiative.
The Michigan operation formed part of a considerably larger national enforcement campaign. According to figures released by FBI headquarters on October 14, Operation Summer Heat 2.0 resulted in 8,927 arrests nationwide, including more than 5,900 arrests conducted under the bureau’s violent crime and gang program.
Federal authorities also reported recovering 5,013 illegally possessed weapons and seizing 687 kilograms of fentanyl and 27,512 kilograms of cocaine. Investigators working on crimes against children identified or located 1,410 child victims across the country.
The Michigan figures represent a portion of those national totals. Although the Detroit Field Office reported 77.2 kilograms of drugs seized, it did not specify the individual substances or quantities involved. Consequently, the Michigan total cannot be independently divided into fentanyl, cocaine, or other drug categories based on the information released.
The bureau also did not identify the jurisdictions within Michigan where the arrests and seizures occurred. FBI Detroit’s results reflect the work of its personnel and participating law enforcement agencies across the state rather than an enforcement operation confined to the city of Detroit.
According to the national announcement, arrests rose approximately 3%, fentanyl seizures increased 63%, weapons recoveries climbed 120%, and the number of children identified or located increased 34% compared with the 2025 operation.
For Michigan, the FBI has not released a corresponding list of defendants, charging documents, or case outcomes associated with all 177 arrests. The numbers document enforcement activity during the initiative, but the individual prosecutions and their results remain separate matters.
Although Operation Summer Heat 2.0 has concluded, the Detroit Field Office confirmed that its violent crime investigations and partnerships with law enforcement agencies throughout Michigan remain active.
