DENVER, COLORADO — Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a Colorado Springs resident, pleaded guilty in federal court on October 29, 2026, to charges stemming from a deadly antisemitic firebomb attack against participants attending a peaceful gathering in Boulder, Colorado. The June 2025 attack killed one woman and left several others with severe injuries, including permanent and life-threatening burns.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Soliman admitted that he deliberately targeted individuals because of their actual or perceived Jewish religion and Israeli national origin. The federal plea covers nine hate crime charges and three explosives-related charges, resolving 12 counts associated with the attack.
The violence occurred on June 1, 2025, when members of the Boulder chapter of Run for Their Lives gathered near the historic Boulder County Courthouse on Pearl Street Mall. The organization conducted walks across the United States to raise awareness about hostages held following the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel. Soliman approached the gathering and threw two ignited Molotov cocktails toward participants, shouting “Free Palestine” as he carried out the assault.
Court records establish that Soliman intended to kill as many people as possible. Before the attack, he purchased materials and assembled more than a dozen incendiary devices using glass containers filled with gasoline and cloth wicks. He also prepared a backpack-mounted weed sprayer containing gasoline, although much of the equipment was not successfully deployed. Boulder police responded to the scene and arrested him.
Karen Sorin Diamond suffered extensive burns during the attack and died after more than three weeks of hospital treatment. Seven additional people sustained significant injuries, including Diamond’s husband, who was among those requiring prolonged medical care. Other witnesses experienced psychological trauma from the violence.
The guilty plea establishes Soliman’s responsibility for the attack and its discriminatory motivation. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division emphasized that individuals must be able to exercise their religious beliefs and participate in public gatherings without facing violence because of their identity or national origin.
U.S. Attorney Peter McNeilly for the District of Colorado described the admitted conduct as antisemitic and acknowledged the cooperation of victims and members of the Boulder community throughout the prosecution. FBI Counterterrorism Division Assistant Director Jarod Brown also addressed the importance of protecting individuals exercising their constitutional rights, while FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Amanda Koldjeski recognized the investigative cooperation between federal agents and local authorities.
Soliman faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment on nine federal counts, along with up to five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. The remaining three counts carry a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison, consecutive to any other prison term, along with up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 7, 2027, before Senior U.S. District Judge John L. Kane. The court will determine the appropriate sentence after considering the applicable federal sentencing guidelines, statutory requirements, and other relevant factors.
The FBI Denver Field Office and Boulder Police Department investigated the case. The federal prosecution involves the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Pastor and Civil Rights Division Trial Attorneys Sarah Howard and Khalil Quinan are among the prosecutors handling the proceedings.
There is no parole in the federal prison system.
