WICHITA, KANSAS — Federal prosecutors have secured 13 grand jury indictments charging 34 defendants with firearms and drug trafficking offenses following Operation Iron Sights, a coordinated law enforcement initiative conducted in the Wichita-Sedgwick County area from July 13 through September 16, 2026. The results were announced October 30 by U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Director Robert Cekada.
Investigators seized 58 firearms, approximately 6.75 kilograms of illegal drugs, and roughly $13,000 in U.S. currency during the operation. The charges include firearms trafficking, unlawful machine gun possession, and trafficking involving fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Several defendants have prior felony convictions, according to federal authorities.
Among those indicted is Lafayette Washington, 46, also known as “Dirty Dot Com,” a convicted felon accused of leading a drug trafficking organization in Wichita. Washington and other alleged members of the organization face methamphetamine, fentanyl, and firearms-related charges. Prosecutors also allege that individuals connected to the operation were involved in an August 2026 overdose that caused serious bodily injury to a minor.
Carey Watts, 20, was indicted for allegedly attacking an ATF agent with a firearm while the agent was performing official duties in July 2026. Jeffrey Muldrow, 41, faces charges of unlawful firearm possession as a convicted felon, supplying weapons to individuals he allegedly knew would use them to commit crimes, and fentanyl trafficking. Morkeuz McClennon, 28, was also indicted on charges involving fentanyl, methamphetamine, and firearms trafficking.
Operation Iron Sights involved the ATF, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Marshals Service, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol, Wichita Police Department, and Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. The Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program provided funding support for the initiative.
ATF Director Robert Cekada highlighted the role of crime gun intelligence capabilities at Wichita State University in supporting investigations. U.S. Attorney Kriegshauser emphasized that certain federal firearms and drug trafficking convictions carry mandatory minimum prison sentences, depending on the offenses and applicable statutory requirements.
Officials participating in the announcement included DEA St. Louis Field Division Special Agent in Charge Steven Hofer, FBI Kansas City Special Agent in Charge Chris Ormerod, Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter, and Kansas Highway Patrol Major Robert Keener. The participating agencies emphasized coordinated investigations targeting illegal firearms distribution, narcotics trafficking, and violent criminal activity throughout the Wichita area.
The 34 defendants face federal criminal allegations that must be established through court proceedings. An indictment is not evidence of guilt, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
