They smile in your face, speak words so kind,
But behind your back, their daggers find.
They wear masks of warmth, but their hearts are cold,
Quick to abandon, so easy to scold.
Family, friends, or strangers you meet—
It makes no difference whose gaze they greet.
Support you gave when they were low,
But when you need it, they’re the first to go.
I lifted them up, held out my hand,
Stood like a rock, firm as I’d planned.
Yet now, as I stumble, I see them turn,
Leaving me here with lessons to learn.
My downfall was trust, a flaw I can’t mend,
For I thought loyalty would never bend.
But loyalty’s rare, and kindness a cost,
In a world where hearts are so easily lost.
They whispered low, called me a flaw,
Said I was nothing, the worst they saw.
Some wished me gone, erased from their sight,
Misunderstood in day, condemned at night.
After work, I’d sneak up, drawn to their sound,
Hushed voices rising as the night came down.
Through the open window, I stood there and heard,
Their careless laughs and every cruel word.
So I walk alone, scarred yet wise,
With eyes now open, seeing through lies.
For in this journey, I’ve come to find,
Few truly care, and fewer are kind.
They say that trust is a gift, not a right,
A fragile thing, like glass in the night.
Once broken, it cuts deep and wide,
Leaving you bleeding, with no one by your side.
So I’ll guard my heart, shield my mind,
Learn to be wary, not easily blind.
For in the end, the truth’s clear to see—
Some only take, while others, like me, bleed free.

Ouch, this was painful to read. I hope you aren’t going through any of this personally at the moment. 🙏
Haha, absolutely! That chapter is closed, and those flames have been out for a while. The people who matter are still here, and my circle is tight with the kind of loyalty you don’t find every day. Thank you, Laura! I hope you have a great day. 😎
Glad to hear 🙏 sometimes we just need to purge those things. I hope you have a great day as well, John
Well written, John. Most of the time, the only one we can truly count on in life is ourselves. 💪
Thank you very much, Kevin! Absolutely, life has a way of showing us who’s truly there, and often, it’s just ourselves standing strong. Thanks again, I hope you have a great day! 💪😎
Yes, when the chips are down you find out who your friends really are indeed.
Thanks, John and you too! 💪😎
