FBI and Milwaukee Police Seek Public Assistance in Unsolved Shooting Death of 12-Year-Old Girl

Federal and local investigators are renewing their appeal for public assistance in the unsolved killing of a 12-year-old Milwaukee girl who was fatally shot while sleeping in her home during the early hours of a summer morning. Authorities say the case remains open and active, with investigators continuing to pursue leads months after the shooting.

The incident occurred shortly before dawn on June 13, 2025, at a residence in the 5000 block of North 73rd Street. According to investigators, an unknown individual or individuals fired multiple rounds into the house from outside. One of the bullets struck 12-year-old Marvayah Darby in the head as she slept inside. She later died from the gunshot wound.

Law enforcement officials describe the shooting as a targeted act of extreme violence carried out in a residential neighborhood, emphasizing that the victim was not involved in any criminal activity and was inside her home at the time of the attack. The volume of gunfire and the timing of the shooting have raised concerns about the level of recklessness involved, as multiple residents were likely inside nearby homes.

Investigators believe a silver or gray sport utility vehicle may have been involved in the shooting, though details regarding the vehicle’s occupants or direction of travel have not been publicly released. Authorities continue to review evidence, analyze forensic findings, and reassess witness information in an effort to identify those responsible.

The case is being handled jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Milwaukee Police Department. Federal officials have authorized a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting.

Investigators stressed that even information that may seem minor could prove critical. Tips involving unusual vehicles, gunfire heard in the area, suspicious activity before or after the shooting, or individuals who may have spoken about the crime are all considered valuable to the investigation.
