SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Federal prosecutors in the Western District of Texas filed 242 new immigration and immigration-related criminal cases between January 30 and February 5, marking one of the most concentrated single-week charging cycles in recent months across the district’s 660-mile stretch of border with Mexico. The cases include allegations of illegal re-entry following prior removals, alien smuggling operations, document fraud, and defendants with prior convictions ranging from violent offenses to sexual assault and repeat driving-while-intoxicated violations.
The filings reflect coordinated enforcement activity supported by the U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with state and local partners operating within the district’s jurisdiction.
Among those charged is Juan Bernardo Cardenas-Ledesma, a Mexican national arrested near Val Verde. Court records indicate he has been removed from the United States three times. Prosecutors allege that he illegally re-entered following prior deportations and previously sustained felony convictions that include grand theft auto, lewd and lascivious acts involving a child under 14, and hit-and-run resulting in injury or death. He now faces federal re-entry charges tied to his most recent arrest.
In Williamson County, Andres Campos-Martinez was transferred into federal custody after local detention on prior charges. Records show that in March 2020 he received ten years of deferred adjudication in Travis County for aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was removed to Mexico six months later. A motion to revoke probation was recently denied in state court, while federal immigration proceedings now move forward based on alleged unlawful re-entry.
Near Maverick County, Honduran national Jose Mario David-Sauzo, also known as Raymundo Martinez, was apprehended by Border Patrol agents. Prosecutors allege he has been deported five times, most recently in September 2024. His prior convictions include possession of a bludgeon, obstruction of justice, burglary of a dwelling involving explosives, and second-degree forgery of a public record. He now faces additional federal charges tied to unlawful re-entry.
At the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry, Mexican national Juan Gabriel Amezquita-Fabian allegedly attempted entry using a counterfeit Texas birth certificate paired with a valid Texas identification card bearing another individual’s name and photograph. According to the criminal complaint, he claimed U.S. citizenship before further inspection led to an alleged admission of decades-long unlawful presence and payment for fraudulent documents. Authorities state he has been removed three times, most recently in December 2025 after a fourth DWI conviction.
Alien smuggling allegations were also filed in El Paso. Ronnie Oswaldo Carreon was arrested at the Bridge of the Americas Port of Entry after an X-ray inspection of his vehicle allegedly revealed a concealed individual hidden between the rear seat and trunk compartment. Investigators state a secondary inspection uncovered a female hidden beneath a cargo-floor panel. Carreon faces federal smuggling charges.
In a separate case, Victor Eduardo De La Fuente, previously convicted in 2024 for conspiracy to transport aliens, was again arrested after Border Patrol agents linked a vehicle he allegedly owns to the transfer of undocumented individuals. Court filings reference a social media video depicting individuals moving between vehicles. Prosecutors allege he previously transported ten individuals for a per-person fee and again faces smuggling-related charges.
Jesus Emanuel Zendejas-Ovalle was transferred into ICE custody after completing a three-year sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Records show he had been removed from the United States in 2014. Alberto Guebara-Urbina, also released to immigration authorities, was previously convicted of first-degree assault and sentenced to five years’ confinement before later removal to Mexico in 2007. He was recently encountered again following a DWI arrest in Comal County.
The Western District of Texas spans nearly 93,000 square miles and includes major population centers such as San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso. Federal immigration enforcement within the district regularly involves layered coordination between border interdiction units, criminal investigators, and financial crime analysts who track repeat-entry patterns, document fraud networks, and smuggling logistics tied to organized transport routes.
Illegal re-entry under 8 U.S.C. § 1326 can carry enhanced penalties when defendants have prior felony convictions. Alien smuggling under 8 U.S.C. § 1324 carries additional exposure when concealment, financial gain, or endangerment factors are alleged. Document fraud and identity misuse introduce further sentencing enhancements depending on conduct and criminal history.
Federal authorities state that the current week’s cases reflect ongoing border enforcement operations targeting repeat-entry offenders, human smuggling facilitators, and individuals with prior criminal convictions who allegedly re-enter the United States after removal.
Indictments and criminal complaints are allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
