A federal fugitive identified on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list has been taken into custody in Florida less than one day after being publicly added to the list, following coordinated action between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and the rapid flow of public tips.
According to official reporting, KaShawn Nicola Roper, previously of Kansas City, Missouri, was apprehended on April 15, 2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time in High Springs, Florida. The arrest was carried out without incident during a law enforcement operation involving the High Springs Police Department, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Marshals Service, with support from the Alachua County Warrants Unit Task Force.
The capture followed intelligence development and tip activity that began immediately after Roper was added to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on April 14, 2026. At the time of the announcement, federal authorities issued a reward offer of up to $1 million for information leading to her arrest.
Investigative coordination accelerated after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Jacksonville Division received information indicating Roper may be located within the region. Law enforcement agencies initiated targeted efforts to track and verify her location, working in conjunction with the Gainesville Police Department and regional task force units. The operation culminated in a traffic stop conducted by High Springs Police Department officers, leading to Roper’s arrest.
Roper is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on August 23, 2020, in Kansas City, Missouri. Court records allege that during an altercation, she discharged multiple rounds into a vehicle, striking two female victims and resulting in the death of one individual. Following the incident, Roper was charged on September 10, 2020, in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Jackson County, Missouri, with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
After failing to appear for prosecution, a federal arrest warrant was issued on July 1, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, charging Roper with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. She remained a fugitive for multiple years prior to her placement on the Ten Most Wanted list.
The Ten Most Wanted Fugitives program, established in March 1950, remains a central tool in federal fugitive apprehension strategy. With Roper’s capture, the program has now accounted for the apprehension of 502 fugitives out of 541 individuals placed on the list, including 164 cases where public assistance played a direct role.
The case involves ongoing coordination between the FBI Kansas City Field Office, FBI Jacksonville Division, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, the United States Marshals Service, and supporting local agencies in Florida and Missouri. The prosecution of the underlying charges is being handled by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and the United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.
The charges against Roper remain allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This is great news! That addition to the list may have made the difference and in record time. What surprised me about this case was that it seems this person was released after the alleged crime as she was “to appear for prosecution, a federal arrest warrant…” After a crime like this, I wouldn’t think a bail amount would be set but maybe I have it all wrong.
In any case, I’m very glad this capture was made without further harm. Congratulations to those involved in the investigation and arrest.
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris.
You’re right to notice that detail. In some cases, depending on how the court evaluates the situation at the time, a person can be released before trial under certain conditions. When those conditions aren’t followed—like failing to appear—that’s when it escalates and leads to situations like this.
And I agree with you, the speed of the capture really stands out. The listing clearly made an impact, and the coordination that followed brought it to a close quickly.
Most important, like you said, it ended without further harm.
Thank you again for reading and for the thoughtful comment, Chris. I hope you have a great day ahead. 😎
You’re welcome, John. I always appreciate your feedback. I hope you have a great day as well!😊
Interesting read.
Thank you very much for reading it. 😎
