Sacramento Fugitive Camron Lee Captured in Mexico as Missing Children Recovered and Returned to Family

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Federal authorities announced the apprehension of fugitive murder suspect Camron Lee, 40, in Baja California, Mexico, following a coordinated international investigation that also resulted in the recovery of two missing children who had not been seen since the 2024 death of their mother inside a Sacramento residence.

According to the FBI Sacramento Field Office, Lee was apprehended on May 17, 2026, in Primo Tapia, Baja California, Mexico, after investigators received a public tip connected to the fugitive investigation.

Authorities confirmed that Athena Lee, 5, and Mateo Lee, 4, were safely recovered during the operation and have since been reunited with their maternal grandmother in California.

Federal investigators stated the operation involved extensive coordination between United States and Mexican authorities during what became a nearly six-month international fugitive recovery campaign.

FBI Sacramento Special Agent in Charge Sid Patel stated the breakthrough demonstrates the continuing importance of public cooperation and international law enforcement coordination in fugitive investigations.

“Today’s announcement highlights the impact of the FBI’s reward program,” Patel stated. “A single tip brought a fugitive to justice for his alleged crime and reunited a family.”

Authorities stated the investigation began following the death of Angelica Bravo on July 8, 2024, after Sacramento Police responded to a residence on Didcot Circle in Sacramento and discovered Bravo deceased inside the home.

Investigators stated Camron Lee, identified as Bravo’s partner, became the focus of the investigation during the months that followed.

According to authorities, Lee was initially charged on July 26, 2024, with four counts involving possession of assault weapons. Investigators later pursued additional homicide charges after the Sacramento County Coroner concluded that homicidal violence could not be ruled out as a potential cause of Bravo’s death.

On March 5, 2025, Lee was formally charged with murder in Sacramento County Superior Court.

Federal authorities stated a federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant was issued on August 20, 2024, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California after investigators determined Lee had fled the jurisdiction with the children.

Athena and Mateo had reportedly not been seen publicly following the July 2024 incident.

Federal investigators launched a bilingual public awareness campaign in December 2025 seeking information connected to Lee’s whereabouts and the missing children. Authorities stated the campaign was distributed throughout North America through media outreach, public alerts, and multilingual law enforcement bulletins.

Sacramento Police Chief Zachary Bales stated investigators remained committed to pursuing Lee despite the international scope of the case.

“This case sends a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our community, and those who harm others will be pursued with determination and resolve,” Bales stated.

Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho stated the arrest represents a major step toward justice for Angelica Bravo’s family while also bringing relief through the safe recovery of the children.

“With the dedicated partnership of the Sacramento Police Department and the FBI, we can announce that Camron Lee is in custody and will face charges for her murder,” Ho stated.

Federal authorities stated Lee’s transportation back to the United States is being funded through “Project Welcome Home,” a federal initiative that assists in returning fugitives to U.S. jurisdiction following international apprehensions.

Investigators continue emphasizing that international fugitive investigations frequently involve complex extradition coordination, cross-border intelligence sharing, immigration enforcement cooperation, financial tracking, and multinational operational planning.

The FBI also stated fugitive investigations involving missing children remain among the bureau’s highest-priority recovery operations due to the elevated safety risks and jurisdictional challenges often involved when children are taken across international borders.
