PORTLAND, Ore. — The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon has recognized FBI Special Agent Bobby Gutierrez as Oregon’s official Freedom 250 Hometown Hero, honoring his leadership and investigative work tied to large-scale fentanyl enforcement operations targeting drug trafficking activity in downtown Portland.

The national Freedom 250 initiative was established as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and recognizes individuals whose public service, leadership, and contributions to their communities reflect longstanding American civic ideals and public safety efforts.

Federal officials stated Special Agent Gutierrez was selected for the recognition because of his extensive role coordinating and supporting multi-agency fentanyl enforcement operations involving the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the Portland Police Bureau, and federal prosecutors operating within the District of Oregon.

According to federal authorities, Gutierrez has spent the past two years working closely with the United States Attorney’s Office and partner agencies to combat fentanyl trafficking networks operating throughout downtown Portland, an area that experienced increasing concerns involving open-air narcotics markets, overdose activity, violent crime, and organized street-level drug distribution.

Federal authorities continue warning that even small quantities can result in fatal overdoses, particularly when users are unaware fentanyl has been mixed into other substances.
