HENDERSON, N.C. — Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are conducting a large-scale manhunt following the escape of two inmates from the Vance County Detention Center in North Carolina, prompting expanded search operations, digital billboard alerts, and a reward offer totaling up to $40,000 for information leading to their capture.
Authorities identified the escaped inmates as Michael Lewis Miles Jr., 33, and Lishawn Knott, 21. Investigators warned both individuals should be considered armed and dangerous.
According to law enforcement officials, Miles and Knott escaped from the Vance County Detention Center on June 3, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m. while being held on multiple state drug trafficking and firearms-related charges.
Federal authorities announced that new digital billboards are being deployed across North Carolina in an effort to expand public awareness and generate leads connected to the fugitives’ whereabouts.
Officials stated the combined reward currently stands at up to $40,000, including $30,000 being offered by the FBI.
Investigators described Michael Lewis Miles Jr. as approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 180 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a prominent neck tattoo.
Lishawn Knott is described as approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and numerous facial tattoos, including a large cross tattoo on his forehead.
Authorities stated the investigation has rapidly evolved into a coordinated multi-agency fugitive operation involving the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the Henderson Police Department, and additional law enforcement partners.
According to officials, investigators are actively pursuing leads through surveillance video analysis, witness interviews, intelligence gathering, associate and family-member interviews, and court-authorized investigative techniques designed to track and locate the escapees.
Federal and state authorities continue warning that escaped inmates involved in violent offenses, firearms crimes, and narcotics trafficking investigations can present elevated risks to the public, especially during active fugitive situations where suspects may seek transportation, shelter, money, or additional weapons while attempting to evade capture.
Law enforcement agencies are urging the public not to approach either suspect if seen.

I’m sure that news will be eventually released about that but the main thing now is that these two are on the loose. My prayer is that no one gets hurt in the reapprehension of these two. And you’re right, at this stage law enforcement appears to be focusing heavily on locating and safely apprehending the escapees before releasing more detailed information about how the escape itself occurred. In situations like this, investigators often withhold certain operational details early on while they work active leads and assess whether additional individuals may have assisted in the escape.
The main priority right now is definitely public safety and preventing anyone from being injured during the manhunt or eventual apprehension effort, especially with both individuals considered armed and dangerous.
It also sounds like authorities are throwing substantial resources into the search already, with federal, state, and local agencies all working together along with surveillance analysis and other investigative methods.
