HONOLULU — The Department of Justice has announced the results of Operation Spring Cleaning, a nationwide FBI-led enforcement initiative targeting violent gangs, narcotics trafficking organizations, illegal firearms networks, and criminal enterprises operating throughout the United States.
According to federal authorities, the operation ran from March 1 through May 31 and involved extensive coordination between the FBI and federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies across multiple jurisdictions.
During the three-month initiative, investigators made more than 1,100 arrests, filed over 600 criminal charges, and executed nearly 600 search warrants as part of coordinated enforcement actions targeting gang activity, drug trafficking operations, firearms offenses, and organized criminal networks.
Federal authorities reported the seizure of nearly 1,000 illegal firearms during the operation, including dozens equipped with machine gun conversion devices capable of converting semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic weapons. Investigators also seized more than 75 standalone machine gun conversion devices, commonly referred to as auto sears or switches, which have become an increasing concern for law enforcement agencies nationwide.
Operation Spring Cleaning also resulted in the seizure of more than 2,700 pounds of illegal narcotics, including over 500 kilograms of cocaine, nearly 700 pounds of methamphetamine, more than 550 pounds of marijuana, nearly 50 kilograms of fentanyl, approximately 40 kilograms of heroin, more than seven kilograms of crack cocaine, and over 13,200 MDMA pills.
Federal officials continue warning that fentanyl remains one of the deadliest narcotics impacting communities across the country due to its extreme potency and growing presence within criminal distribution networks. Law enforcement agencies have increasingly linked fentanyl trafficking to overdose deaths, organized criminal activity, and transnational narcotics organizations operating throughout North America.
FBI Director Kash Patel described the operation as part of a broader national strategy aimed at reducing violent crime, dismantling gang networks, and removing illegal firearms and narcotics from communities. Federal officials stated large-scale enforcement initiatives remain a key component of ongoing efforts to target organizations responsible for drug distribution, weapons trafficking, gang violence, and repeat criminal activity.
In Hawaii, FBI Honolulu and partnering agencies conducted one major takedown operation along with two additional enforcement actions that resulted in the arrests and indictments of 11 individuals, including ten alleged members of a drug trafficking organization.
Authorities reported executing 27 search warrants during the Hawaii operations, leading to the seizure of approximately eight kilograms of methamphetamine, five kilograms of cocaine, four kilograms of additional illegal narcotics, ten firearms, multiple firearm accessories, and approximately $150,000 in U.S. currency.
Federal officials stated the Hawaii investigations focused on disrupting narcotics distribution networks operating throughout the islands while targeting individuals allegedly involved in organized trafficking activity.
The operation follows another recent FBI Honolulu-led investigation that resulted in the seizure of more than 40 firearms, including an Uzi submachine gun, short-barreled rifles, and an AR-style pistol, along with the arrest of two brothers connected to the investigation.
Operation Spring Cleaning involved support from numerous federal agencies and law enforcement partners throughout the country and represents one of the largest coordinated gang and narcotics enforcement initiatives announced by the Department of Justice this year.
Federal authorities stated additional gang suppression operations, firearms investigations, narcotics interdiction efforts, and organized crime enforcement actions are expected to continue as law enforcement agencies maintain pressure on criminal organizations operating across the United States.
