ST. LOUIS SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 11 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON AFTER CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL DISCOVERED DURING SUPERVISED RELEASE

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A St. Louis man previously convicted in a child pornography case has been sentenced to 140 months in federal prison after investigators discovered additional child sexual abuse material on unauthorized electronic devices while he was serving a term of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, U.S. District Judge Zachary M. Bluestone sentenced Sandor Spies, 39, on June 18, 2026, after he pleaded guilty in March to one count of possession of child pornography.

Court records show that Spies was on supervised release for a prior federal child pornography conviction when probation officers conducted a home visit and located multiple unauthorized electronic devices. Individuals on supervised release are often subject to court-imposed restrictions regarding internet access, electronic devices, monitoring requirements, and other conditions designed to reduce the risk of reoffending.

Authorities said a subsequent forensic examination of the devices uncovered images and videos containing child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as CSAM. Investigators also discovered evidence indicating that Spies had used the devices to access and view CSAM, communicate with individuals involved in the distribution of such material, and engage in drug-related activity.

According to court filings, investigators additionally recovered online communications in which Spies and others discussed fantasies involving the violent sexual assault of minors.

Federal prosecutors stated that the evidence was uncovered during supervision activities conducted while Spies remained under federal monitoring following his previous conviction.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Probation Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Dianna Edwards prosecuted the case.

The conviction was pursued under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat the online sexual exploitation and abuse of children. The program coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement resources to identify offenders, investigate child exploitation crimes, recover victims, and prosecute individuals involved in the production, possession, distribution, or trafficking of child sexual abuse material.

Federal authorities continue to warn that the possession, distribution, and production of child sexual abuse material remain serious federal offenses carrying substantial prison sentences and long-term supervised release requirements. Investigations frequently involve digital forensic examinations, online undercover operations, cyber investigations, and cooperation among multiple law enforcement agencies.
