A Woodinville, Washington, man has been indicted on 30 federal felony counts after prosecutors accused him of stealing approximately $440,000 from two financial institutions where he worked and attempting to conceal the proceeds through a series of structured cash deposits and money laundering transactions.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington, Joshua Shore, 41, is charged with multiple counts of theft by a bank employee and money laundering stemming from an alleged scheme that prosecutors say spanned several years while he held positions of trust with two financial institutions.
Federal prosecutors allege Shore first worked as the Operations Manager of a Wells Fargo cash vault in Tukwila, Washington, between July 2019 and April 2022, where his responsibilities provided direct access to substantial amounts of cash. The indictment alleges he stole approximately $40,000 on December 6, 2021, followed by another $100,000 on January 28, 2022.
According to the indictment, Shore allegedly attempted to disguise the source of the stolen funds by making numerous cash deposits—many in amounts below federal currency reporting thresholds—into personal bank accounts through ATM transactions before transferring portions of the money to another financial institution. Prosecutors allege the transactions were structured to conceal the origin and ownership of the funds and to evade anti-money laundering reporting requirements.
Prosecutors further allege that Shore later became Market Manager at First Financial Northwest’s Renton Main Branch between September 2023 and December 2025. The indictment alleges that on October 10, 2025, immediately before the Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day holiday weekend, Shore stole approximately $300,000 from the institution’s cash vault. Investigators allege he later deposited the money into personal accounts through numerous ATM transactions at various bank locations.
In total, the indictment charges Shore with 30 felony counts, including theft by an employee of an FDIC-insured financial institution, theft by an employee of an NCUA-insured financial institution, and multiple counts of money laundering. Federal prosecutors are also seeking forfeiture of seized currency, funds held in bank accounts, and any additional property representing proceeds derived from the alleged offenses.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Charlotte Storey, an attorney with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
The announcement was made by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd, who stated that investigators believe the alleged thefts harmed multiple financial institutions and cast suspicion on innocent employees while the defendant allegedly attempted to conceal the stolen money through repeated banking transactions.
If convicted, the theft charges carry penalties of up to 30 years in federal prison, while the money laundering charges carry potential penalties of up to 20 years or 10 years in prison, depending on the specific count charged.
The indictment contains allegations only. Joshua Shore is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Positions of trust, like the one held by Mr. Shore, still need oversight. An honest employee would welcome such oversight as it might help in making sure the job has been preformed to the company’s satisfaction. It is quite brazen to steel $300,000 from the institution’s cash vault. I appreciate the attorneys and investigators working on this case. I hope this man gets a fair trial and the proper sentence if found guilty.
Thank you for this article.
You’re very welcome, Chris.
Positions built on trust should also include accountability. Honest employees generally have nothing to fear from reasonable oversight because those safeguards help protect both the organization and the people who work there.
If the allegations are ultimately proven true, stealing such a substantial amount of money from a financial institution while serving in a position of responsibility would represent a serious breach of that trust. Cases like this also remind organizations why strong internal controls, regular audits, and multiple layers of oversight are so important in protecting both financial institutions and the public they serve.
Like you, I also appreciate the work of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the case.
Thank you again for reading the article and for taking the time to comment, Chris. I always appreciate your support and your continued readership. I hope you have a great day ahead. 😎
You’re welcome, John, and thank you for this comment.
I agree strongly with your statement:
“If the allegations are ultimately proven true, stealing such a substantial amount of money from a financial institution while serving in a position of responsibility would represent a serious breach of that trust.”
Accidentally sent it before finished with my comment so here is the rest of it…
I also think you are spot on about multiple layers of oversight being important so the chances of something like this happening are minimized.
Thanks again, John, and I hope you have a great day ahead as well!😊
