ARLINGTON MAN SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR RECEIVING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — An Arlington man has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material after investigators discovered images and videos on his electronic devices and identified links containing hundreds of additional files documenting the sexual abuse of children.

Patrick Wanamaker, 35, was sentenced on July 22, 2026, in the Eastern District of Virginia for receipt of child sexual abuse material, commonly identified by federal authorities as CSAM.

According to court documents, Wanamaker viewed, downloaded, and possessed images and videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The material included depictions involving infants and toddlers.

Federal authorities searched Wanamaker’s Arlington residence on October 1, 2025, and recovered nine electronic devices. Investigators determined that eight of those devices belonged to Wanamaker.

A forensic examination of his cellphone and laptop identified 81 CSAM images that he had downloaded between December 2015 and October 2023. The timeline established that his activity extended across nearly eight years rather than involving a single isolated download.

The forensic investigation also found that Wanamaker had emailed himself links hosted through the Mega file-storage service. Those links contained only child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The linked collections contained 279 images and 777 videos, totaling 1,056 files. Some of the material depicted the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.

Wanamaker accessed the links at various times between January 2022 and October 2023. Emailing the links to himself provided a method of retaining access to the collections without requiring every file to remain continuously stored on one local device.

The use of cloud-storage links does not separate the conduct from the underlying abuse shown in the files. Each image or video represents the recorded exploitation of a child, and the continued circulation of that material allows the documented abuse to be repeatedly viewed and redistributed.

Federal investigators use forensic examinations to identify stored files, download histories, account activity, communications, internet links, and other digital evidence. In this case, the examination connected material recovered from Wanamaker’s cellphone and laptop with additional collections he accessed through links sent to his own email account.

The sentence of nine years amounts to 108 months in federal custody. Wanamaker’s sentence followed his adjudication for receipt of child sexual abuse material, meaning the conduct is not being reported as a pending allegation.

The FBI Washington Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Clement and former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexandra Minghella prosecuted the case on behalf of the federal government.

The prosecution was brought through Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative established in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood is led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. The initiative coordinates federal, state, and local resources to identify, locate, apprehend, and prosecute offenders who exploit children through the internet.

The program also supports efforts to identify and rescue victims whose abuse has been recorded, distributed, or accessed through digital platforms.

The investigation into Patrick Wanamaker documented years of activity involving locally stored images and cloud-based collections containing more than 1,000 additional files. His nine-year federal sentence reflects the seriousness of receiving and maintaining access to material created through the sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
