TWO MEN FEDERALLY CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH 2022 KILLING OF ANNA MARIE SCOTT ON TRIBAL LAND

RENO, Nev. — A federal grand jury has returned a superseding indictment charging two men for their alleged roles in the February 2022 killing of Anna Marie Scott on the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony.

Delshay Astor is charged with one count of first-degree murder within Indian Country. Joel Christy is charged with one count of accessory after the fact for allegedly assisting Astor and another person in avoiding apprehension.

The superseding indictment replaces and expands upon the earlier federal indictment returned against Astor in May 2026. That initial indictment charged Astor with one count of second-degree murder within Indian Country.

The new charging document increases the murder charge against Astor from second-degree murder to first-degree murder and adds Christy as a second defendant.

“While these new charges reflect the expanding scope and strength of our ongoing investigation, our primary focus today remains exactly where it belongs, on Anna Marie Scott, her family, and everyone who loved her,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada Sigal Chattah said. “Our office, alongside our partners in law enforcement, will continue to work tirelessly as this case moves toward trial until justice is fully served.”

According to allegations contained in the superseding indictment, Astor acted with premeditation and malice when he allegedly killed Scott on or about February 2, 2022.

Scott was a member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

Federal prosecutors allege that Scott was shot and killed on the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. Her body was allegedly placed inside her vehicle before the vehicle was set on fire.

The accusation of premeditation forms part of the first-degree murder charge now pending against Astor. The indictment remains an allegation and has not established Astor’s guilt.

Christy is accused of assisting Astor and another individual following the alleged killing. According to the superseding indictment, Christy acted to hinder and prevent the apprehension of Astor and the other individual on or about February 2, 2022.

Christy is not charged with Scott’s murder in the official release. His federal charge is accessory after the fact based on the allegation that he helped others avoid apprehension after the crime.

“We hope the arrest of a second subject on charges of aiding and abetting brings some measure of relief to the family of Anna Scott after many years of awaiting justice,” said Christopher S. Delzotto, special agent in charge of the FBI Las Vegas Field Office. “The FBI, alongside our law enforcement partners, specifically the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Reno Sparks Tribal Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service, remain committed to combating violent crime in all its forms on tribal lands and throughout the state of Nevada.”

If convicted of first-degree murder within Indian Country, Astor faces a statutory minimum sentence of life imprisonment.

If convicted of accessory after the fact, Christy faces a statutory maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.

The potential penalties do not represent sentences already imposed. Both defendants must first be convicted, and any sentence would be determined by a federal district court judge after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

A federal jury trial is scheduled for September 29, 2026.

The FBI and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. The Reno Sparks Tribal Police Department participated as a law-enforcement partner, and the U.S. Marshals Service provided operational support.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Brister is prosecuting the case for the District of Nevada.

A superseding indictment is a formal charging document and does not constitute evidence of guilt. Astor and Christy are presumed innocent unless and until each is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
