The Realist Juggernaut was recently notified that some visitors without WordPress accounts encountered payment barriers when attempting to contribute to TRJ or purchase an advertising slot. To resolve these issues, The Realist Juggernaut has officially launched a new independent payment system designed to make supporting our work and purchasing TRJ advertising easier, faster, and more accessible. No WordPress account or website login is required.

Until now, our contribution and advertising options relied on WordPress payment tools that could create unnecessary barriers. In some cases, visitors were asked to sign in to or create a WordPress account before completing a payment. We understood how quickly that extra requirement could discourage someone who simply wanted to contribute or purchase advertising services.

Supporting independent journalism should not require joining another platform first.

For that reason, we developed a custom TRJ Payment Center connected directly to Square. This provides our readers, listeners, supporters, and advertisers with a direct way to complete secure payments through our website without being required to create a WordPress account.

The new system provides one-time, monthly, and yearly contribution options. Supporters may choose from several preset amounts or enter a custom amount that works for them. Recurring contributors receive a secure management link that allows them to view their contribution schedule and cancel future renewals without having to contact us or navigate through an outside membership platform.

TRJ AD’s customers now have the same convenience. Advertisers may select TRJ AD’s Standard or TRJ AD’s Premium with monthly or discounted yearly billing. Advertising payments remain completely separate from contributions, and all submitted advertising remains subject to TRJ review and our published advertising standards.

Every payment is securely processed by Square. The Realist Juggernaut does not receive or store anyone’s complete card number. Square handles payment authorization, recurring billing, invoices, receipts, and protected card information through its established payment infrastructure.

Customers receive clear records of their transactions. Recurring contributors and advertisers also receive secure links for managing future renewals. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and no additional renewal is charged after the cancellation becomes effective.

This was not a simple payment-button replacement. The system was built specifically for TRJ and tested across one-time contributions, monthly contributions, yearly contributions, monthly advertising subscriptions, yearly advertising subscriptions, invoices, management links, cancellation requests, confirmation emails, and payment-status updates.

We completed extensive testing before moving the system into its live production environment. We also completed a successful real-world transaction to confirm that the public payment pathway was working correctly from beginning to end.

The result is a cleaner and more professional experience that gives TRJ greater operational independence while giving customers greater convenience and control.

This change also represents something larger for The Realist Juggernaut. Independent journalism should not be unnecessarily restricted by platforms that stand between a publication and the people who choose to support it. Our new system creates a more direct connection between TRJ and its community while allowing Square to securely handle the financial transaction.

No account creation. No forced WordPress sign-in. No unnecessary obstacle placed between a supporter and the work they believe in.

Contributions remain voluntary and deeply appreciated.
