KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE — August 19, 2026 — A Tennessee man identified by federal authorities as one of the original members of the nihilistic violent extremist groups 764 and HarmNation has been sentenced to 77 years in federal prison for child sexual exploitation offenses and aiding the distribution of animal crushing videos.
Kyle William Spitze, 27, of Friendsville, Tennessee, received the sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of production of child sexual exploitation material, one count of abetting the distribution of animal crushing videos, and one count of possessing and accessing child sexual exploitation material with intent to view it.
Federal authorities described the 77-year term as the longest federal prison sentence ever imposed on a nihilistic violent extremist.
Following his imprisonment, Spitze will serve lifetime supervised release. He will also be required to register with state sex offender registries and comply with special conditions imposed on federal sex offenders.
Spitze used the online aliases “Crimhn,” “Criminal,” and “Criminaloli.” Federal authorities identified him as a member of 764 and an administrator of HarmNation, a network associated with 764.
According to the Justice Department, nihilistic violent extremist networks including 764 and HarmNation use social media platforms to produce and distribute extreme gore material and child sexual abuse material while conducting coordinated extortion of underage victims.
Federal authorities say these networks target vulnerable individuals, including minors, and can use extortion, coercion, threats, and blackmail to force victims to comply with demands involving self-mutilation, sexual acts, harm to animals, exploitation of other victims, violence, suicide, and murder.
The FBI began investigating HarmNation in December 2023 after receiving tips that members of the network were distributing child sexual abuse material.
During the investigation, Spitze was identified as a member of the network and as the operator of a social media channel where he uploaded images and videos involving nude minor girls who had inflicted cuts and other wounds upon themselves.
Investigators found that some of the minors had variations of Spitze’s “Crim” or “Criminal” aliases written in blood or carved into their bodies.
The social media channel also contained images depicting animal mutilation, including images containing variations of the “Crim” name.
In February 2024, investigators obtained a search warrant for Spitze’s cellphone. Authorities discovered similar images and videos on the device, including material involving two minor victims.
One of the victims had written “crim” across her chest in her own blood.
The minor later told the FBI that Spitze had threatened her into producing images for him to upload to a separate social media channel.
Spitze admitted to investigators that he had a terrorist motive for committing his crimes.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg identified Spitze as one of the original members of HarmNation and 764 and said the groups sought the downfall of society through terrorism by targeting children and other vulnerable people.
Eisenberg said members used extortion to pressure victims into criminal sexual conduct, self-harm, and activity connected to mass-casualty events.
Attorney General Todd Blanche said the sentence represented a step toward justice for the children and families harmed by 764 and said the Justice Department would continue pursuing online predator networks and nihilistic violent extremists who target vulnerable children.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau has dedicated personnel across all 50 states to investigations involving nihilistic violent extremist networks and is focused on identifying, locating, and arresting participants in those networks.
Patel also said the FBI and its law-enforcement partners had significantly increased arrests of NVE offenders during the previous year and credited the FBI Nashville Field Office and Knoxville Resident Agency for their work in Spitze’s case.
Assistant Attorney General Eisenberg said the National Security Division would continue working with law-enforcement partners to identify and prosecute individuals using nihilistic violent extremist networks to target children and other vulnerable people.
U.S. Attorney Francis M. Hamilton III for the Eastern District of Tennessee said the sentence reflected the severity of Spitze’s crimes and the harm caused to children targeted by his conduct.
FBI Nashville Special Agent in Charge Terence G. Reilly said using and pressuring children to produce sexually explicit and physically harmful material represented severe exploitation and said the FBI would continue using lawful investigative tools to disrupt and dismantle networks targeting children.
The Justice Department said 764 and related nihilistic violent extremist networks operate in the United States and internationally and use online platforms to spread child sexual abuse material and graphic violent content while grooming victims toward acts of exploitation and violence.
The FBI has published guidance for parents and caregivers concerning online networks that target minors and the risks associated with coercion, manipulation, violent content, and sexual exploitation.
The FBI investigated Spitze’s case, including personnel from the FBI Nashville Field Office and Knoxville Resident Agency.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Kolman for the Eastern District of Tennessee prosecuted the case. Trial Attorneys Justin Sher and James Donnelly of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section provided assistance.
The prosecution was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Justice Department initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative coordinates federal, state, and local resources to locate and apprehend offenders, prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and identify and rescue victims.
Spitze’s 77-year prison sentence follows his guilty plea to the federal offenses charged in the case. After completing his prison term, he will remain subject to lifetime supervised release, state sex offender registration requirements, and special conditions imposed on federal sex offenders.
