Lewiston Man Sentenced to 84 Months in Federal Prison for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

COEUR D’ALENE, IDAHO — August 18, 2026 — A 20-year-old Lewiston man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material discovered during an investigation that began with a CyberTip involving a social media account.

Wyatt Samuel Parris, 20, of Lewiston, Idaho, received an 84-month federal prison sentence for possession of child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis for the District of Idaho.

The investigation began during the fall of 2024 when law enforcement received a CyberTip identifying a social media account suspected of transmitting child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as CSAM.

Investigators determined that the account belonged to Parris, who was living in Lewiston at the time.

Law enforcement subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant at Parris’s residence. During the search, investigators examined Parris’s cellphone and discovered numerous photographs and videos depicting child sexual abuse material.

The investigation also uncovered conversations between Parris and other individuals in which he discussed wanting to view and participate in the violent sexual abuse of young children.

Following the federal prosecution, U.S. District Judge David C. Nye sentenced Parris to 84 months in prison.

Once his prison term is completed, Parris will be placed on supervised release for 10 years. He will also be required to register as a sex offender as a result of the conviction.

Federal supervised release imposes continuing court-ordered restrictions after a defendant leaves prison and allows authorities to monitor compliance with conditions imposed by the sentencing court.

The case was investigated through cooperation among the Lewiston Police Department, Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Moscow Police Department, Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office, and FBI.

U.S. Attorney Davis credited those agencies for the investigative work that led to the federal charges and conviction.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Johnson prosecuted the case for the District of Idaho.

The prosecution was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative created in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

In Idaho, Project Safe Childhood brings together the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho, Idaho Attorney General’s Office, federal investigators, state and local law enforcement, and other participating agencies to identify individuals exploiting children through the internet, prosecute offenders, and locate victims.

The CyberTip that initiated the investigation reflects one of the mechanisms used by law enforcement to identify suspected online child exploitation activity. Once investigators connected the reported social media account to Parris, the investigation progressed to a residential search warrant, during which investigators examined his cellphone and discovered numerous photographs and videos depicting child sexual abuse material.

The case ultimately resulted in a federal conviction, an 84-month prison sentence, 10 years of supervised release, and mandatory sex offender registration.
