FRESNO, Calif. — A Modesto man has been sentenced to 37½ years in federal prison for the sexual exploitation of minors and receipt of child sexual abuse images.
Jacob Jacobsen, 31, was sentenced to 37.5 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
He was also ordered to pay $25,000 in special assessments and forfeit devices used in committing the crimes.
According to court documents, the investigation began after the mother of a 13-year-old girl in Memphis, Tennessee, contacted law enforcement about someone who had been communicating with her daughter through Snapchat.
Investigators later identified that person as Jacobsen.
Law enforcement executed numerous search warrants and discovered that Jacobsen had contacted dozens of minor females while using the Snapchat screen names “trippinj” and “treydawgg2000.”
Jacobsen frequently claimed to be 16 or 17 years old while communicating with the victims and soliciting sexually explicit photographs and videos.
He admitted to investigators that he had been obtaining sexually explicit images of minor females for more than five years before his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Eric Grant credited the Tennessee mother whose report led authorities to Jacobsen and said the sentence would protect the public for decades.
The FBI Nashville Field Office, Memphis Resident Agency, and the FBI Sacramento, Ripon Resident Agency conducted the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney David Gappa prosecuted the case.
The prosecution was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to identify offenders, prosecute child exploitation crimes, and locate and assist victims.
