FBI DENVER, EL PASO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, AND COLORADO SPRINGS POLICE FORM CHILD EXPLOITATION AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING TASK FORCE

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The FBI Denver Field Office, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado Springs Police Department have formally established the Southern Colorado Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, creating a unified investigative team focused on identifying victims, disrupting offenders, and strengthening regional investigations involving crimes against children and vulnerable individuals.

The task force brings federal and local investigators together in the same FBI workspace in Colorado Springs, allowing participating agencies to exchange intelligence more quickly, coordinate investigations across jurisdictional boundaries, and receive specialized FBI training.

The FBI said the structure is designed to strengthen investigations involving internet crimes against children, child exploitation, and human trafficking throughout Southern Colorado.

By placing personnel from the FBI, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado Springs Police Department in one location, investigators can combine local knowledge with federal resources and investigative capabilities while reducing delays that can occur when agencies operate separately.

The task force builds on an existing law-enforcement partnership among the three agencies rather than creating an entirely new relationship.

FBI Denver said the agencies have previously worked together across numerous investigations and public-safety incidents, with the new task force formalizing that cooperation specifically around child exploitation and human trafficking cases.

FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Amanda Koldjeski said the task force represents a commitment to taking a proactive approach to protecting children and preventing exploitation from escalating.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal said effective investigations involving vulnerable victims require shared intelligence and coordinated law-enforcement action across agency boundaries.

Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez said placing investigators together in a unified location will allow participating agencies to exchange information more rapidly and strengthen investigations involving child exploitation and trafficking.

The task-force model is particularly important in cases that cross jurisdictional boundaries.

Online exploitation investigations can involve victims, suspects, electronic devices, internet accounts, service providers, and digital evidence located in different cities, states, or jurisdictions. Human trafficking investigations can also require coordination among multiple agencies when victims or offenders move between communities.

The Southern Colorado task force gives investigators a centralized structure for sharing intelligence, coordinating investigative steps, and combining federal and local resources when cases extend beyond a single department’s jurisdiction.

The new task force is specifically focused on strengthening investigative cooperation throughout Southern Colorado.

The agencies did not identify a specific investigation, arrest, or criminal case connected to the August 27 announcement.

The formation of the task force is an operational expansion intended to improve future investigations, accelerate information sharing, identify victims more effectively, and pursue individuals involved in child exploitation and human trafficking.

By formalizing the partnership between the FBI, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado Springs Police Department, Southern Colorado now has a dedicated multi-agency unit operating from a shared location against crimes that frequently cross technological and jurisdictional boundaries.
