FORMER MINNESOTA STATE TROOPER SENTENCED TO 27 YEARS FOR PRODUCING AND DISTRIBUTING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — Former Minnesota State Trooper Jeremy Francis Plonski has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for producing and distributing child pornography involving a minor victim, conduct that occurred while Plonski was serving as a law enforcement officer.

U.S. District Judge Kate M. Menendez imposed the sentence on September 8, 2026. Plonski received 324 months in federal prison, followed by 180 months, or 15 years, of supervised release.

Plonski previously pleaded guilty on October 8, 2025, to production of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. His case therefore proceeded to sentencing following an admission of guilt rather than an unresolved allegation.

According to federal court documents, Plonski produced 23 videos containing child sexual abuse material between approximately April and October 2023.

Federal prosecutors said some of the recordings depicted Plonski sexually abusing the minor victim while wearing his Minnesota State Patrol uniform. He later distributed recordings depicting the abuse through a social media application.

The offenses represented both the sexual exploitation of a child and a profound abuse of the authority associated with Plonski’s position as a state trooper.

United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen for the District of Minnesota said Plonski had taken an oath to protect the public but committed serious crimes against a vulnerable child. Rosen said the sentence reflected the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s commitment to protecting children and the cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.

Colonel Christina Bogojevic, Chief of the Minnesota State Patrol, said no badge, title, or position places a person above the law and confirmed that Jeremy Plonski was terminated by the Minnesota State Patrol.

FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson said Plonski betrayed the responsibilities associated with his position and emphasized the lasting harm caused by the sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Dotson said the FBI and its law enforcement partners would continue committing resources to investigations involving child exploitation and expressed hope that the sentence would provide the victim and family with a measure of safety and justice.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans also addressed the significance of the case, noting that Plonski had sworn to uphold the law before violating that responsibility through criminal conduct.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and other law enforcement partners.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota prosecuted the case.

The prosecution was also brought under Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice initiative established in 2006 to coordinate federal, state, and local efforts against child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program focuses on identifying offenders who exploit children, investigating internet-facilitated exploitation, prosecuting federal offenses, and locating and protecting victims.

Plonski’s 27-year prison sentence will be followed by 15 years of federal supervision, placing him under court-ordered monitoring well beyond the completion of his term of incarceration.
