MASSACHUSETTS MAN SENTENCED TO NEARLY 10 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR THREATS AGAINST CONGRESSMAN RANDY FINE AND HIS CHILDREN

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 26-year-old Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 9 years and 11 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to making interstate threats against Congressman Randy Fine and his children, threats a federal judge determined were motivated by hate.

Edwin Guerrero was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine. Guerrero pleaded guilty on March 23, 2026, to making interstate threats to injure another person.

The threats were made between August 10 and August 15, 2024, when Fine was serving in the Florida House of Representatives. According to court documents, Guerrero used a social media account to send a series of antisemitic posts and violent threats directed at Fine and his two sons.

Investigators determined that Guerrero was in Spain when the messages were sent.

One post stated that he was taking a “field trip” to Brevard County, Florida, and included a photograph of an individual appearing to hold a firearm. Other messages threatened Fine’s children, referenced Fine being killed, and included graphic imagery of a deceased person with severe head trauma.

The threats escalated beyond generalized hostile rhetoric.

Federal prosecutors said Guerrero directly threatened Fine’s life and referenced forcing Fine’s children to witness violence against their father. Some of the messages also specifically targeted the children because they were Jewish.

After Guerrero returned to the United States, investigators interviewed him. According to court records, he admitted using the social media account that sent the threatening messages.

A subsequent search of Guerrero’s phone revealed search history containing antisemitic and anti-Israel material, including a search stating that Israel should “burn in hell.”

At sentencing, Fine described the impact the threats had on his family. He told the court that his sons had become victims of a crime and said the threats involving his children made him fear for both himself and them. Fine said Guerrero’s references to his children crossed a line and made his “blood run cold.”

U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe said federal authorities will take seriously and prosecute threats of intimidation or harm directed at public officials or anyone targeted because of political or religious beliefs.

Judge Moe found during the sentencing hearing that Guerrero’s threats against Fine and his minor children were motivated by hate. The court also emphasized the seriousness of the antisemitic content and the need to deter threats directed at elected officials and members of protected classes.

Guerrero’s guilty plea established his criminal responsibility for the conduct, and the sentencing determined the punishment imposed by the federal court.

This is no longer an allegation-stage case. Guerrero admitted guilt, and the federal court has now imposed a prison sentence just one month short of 10 years.

The case also illustrates the federal reach of interstate-threat investigations.

Guerrero was physically located in Spain when the social media threats were transmitted, yet the messages targeted a public official and his family in the United States. His location outside the country at the time did not prevent federal investigators from identifying the account, examining the communications, interviewing him after his return, and pursuing the case in federal court.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney Richardson-Jones prosecuted the case.

In Guerrero’s case, the federal court had more than threatening language alone before it. The record included repeated social media messages, violent imagery, the targeting of Fine’s children, Guerrero’s admission that he controlled the account, and evidence recovered from his phone.

Those facts ultimately resulted in a guilty plea, a hate-motivation finding by the sentencing judge, a $15,000 fine, and a federal prison term of 9 years and 11 months.
