SEATTLE — A 35-year-old dual citizen of the United Kingdom and South Africa has been sentenced in federal court after violently disrupting an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Seattle, assaulting a flight attendant and passengers before being restrained for hours during the June 19, 2026, flight.
James Bradley Noble, a resident of Northern Ireland, received a time-served sentence in U.S. District Court in Seattle. Noble had spent approximately 10 days in the King County Jail and Federal Detention Center following the incident and had remained on home detention with electronic monitoring at a rented Seattle residence after his release.
U.S. District Judge Lauren King accepted the sentencing recommendation and emphasized that Noble’s conduct affected everyone aboard the aircraft. One flight attendant reported that passengers were terrified and that, had an in-flight emergency occurred, it would have been difficult for the crew to respond.
According to federal court records, Noble became significantly impaired after consuming a large amount of alcohol along with prescription medication during the flight.
His conduct first involved the passenger seated next to him. Prosecutors said Noble attempted to force a pill on the passenger and spilled a drink on her before leaving his seat and entering the galley area.
There, Noble aggressively grabbed a flight attendant from behind. The flight attendant attempted to escort him back to his seat, but Noble continued behaving aggressively while moving through the cabin.
Court records state that he stumbled into another passenger seated in front of him, cursed at that passenger and violently shook the back of the passenger’s seat. His behavior became disruptive enough that passengers seated nearby had to be moved elsewhere in the aircraft.
Flight attendants eventually restrained Noble in his seat. Several crew members were required to secure him, and he remained restrained for hours while the aircraft continued toward Seattle.
The incident created a significant safety concern because commercial flight crews are responsible not only for passenger management but also for emergency response, evacuation and aircraft safety procedures. A violent or severely impaired passenger can divert multiple crew members from those responsibilities and create additional risk for everyone aboard.
Noble pleaded guilty on August 19, 2026, to interference with flight crew members and attendants, a federal felony offense.
Federal prosecutors did not seek additional imprisonment beyond the time Noble had already spent in custody. In their sentencing submission, prosecutors stressed that the absence of serious physical injuries did not diminish the seriousness of his conduct, particularly because passengers and crew were confined inside an aircraft at cruising altitude with no practical ability to remove themselves from the situation.
Prosecutors also noted that Noble is a licensed pilot, a fact they argued should have given him a greater understanding of the dangers created by disruptive behavior aboard an aircraft.
His conviction could carry consequences beyond the sentence imposed in federal court. Prosecutors indicated that it may affect his ability to travel internationally and could interfere with his current employment.
Restitution remains unresolved. Victims are continuing to provide information concerning injuries they may have suffered as a result of Noble’s conduct, and a separate restitution hearing is scheduled for late October.
Noble is expected to voluntarily leave the United States following sentencing. Because the conviction is a felony, his ability to return to the United States may also be restricted.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Port of Seattle Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Vince Lombardi prosecuted the case.
Noble’s guilty plea and sentencing resolve the federal criminal charge arising from the June 19 flight. The remaining restitution proceeding will determine what financial compensation, if any, must be paid to victims affected by the incident.
