FLORIDA MAN INDICTED OVER ALLEGED INSTAGRAM THREATS TARGETING JEWISH PEOPLE WHILE DISPLAYING FIREARMS

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA — A 45-year-old Sarasota man has been federally indicted after allegedly posting videos on Instagram threatening violence against Jewish people while displaying multiple firearms. The indictment follows an investigation into statements federal authorities identified as threats to injure others.

Duncan Fraser MacDonald faces a federal charge of transmitting threatening communications through interstate or foreign commerce. U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the indictment on October 19, 2026, confirming that MacDonald could face up to five years in federal prison if convicted.

According to the indictment and an earlier criminal complaint, MacDonald posted several videos to Instagram between September 16 and 17, 2026. Prosecutors allege that the recordings contained explicit threats directed at Jewish people, including statements about hunting and killing them while expressing approval of Adolf Hitler through a reference to the “Austrian painter.”

Federal authorities reported that MacDonald displayed numerous firearms during the recordings. The combination of threatening statements and visible weapons became a central element of the investigation, although the government’s announcement did not establish that MacDonald had attempted to carry out an attack or identify any specific intended victims.

MacDonald was arrested in Arizona on September 18, 2026, pursuant to a federal arrest warrant issued following the initial criminal complaint. He made his initial appearance in federal court in Jacksonville on October 16, 2026.

The federal charge concerns the transmission of communications containing threats to injure another person across interstate or international channels. Prosecutors must establish the required elements of the offense, including that the communications constituted unlawful threats under the applicable federal statute. The indictment does not establish MacDonald’s guilt, and he remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney David B. Mesrobian is responsible for prosecuting the case.

The prosecution addresses alleged threats communicated through a widely accessible social media platform rather than a completed act of physical violence. Federal investigators can pursue criminal charges involving threatening online communications when the evidence supports the elements of an applicable federal offense, including the required mental state and interstate or foreign commerce connection.

MacDonald’s case will proceed through the federal judicial system, where the government must prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt to obtain a conviction. No conviction or sentence was announced in the October 19 release.
