FLORIDA MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ATTEMPTED ENTICEMENT OF A MINOR FOLLOWING UNDERCOVER ONLINE INVESTIGATION

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — A 31-year-old Tallahassee man has pleaded guilty in federal court to attempting to entice a minor into sexual activity following an undercover investigation involving online communications with law enforcement officers posing as a parent and child.

Jarrod Gordon Eldridge entered his guilty plea to one count of attempted enticement of a minor, according to an October 22, 2026, announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida. The conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

According to federal court documents, the investigation began with online communications in February 2024. Eldridge contacted an individual he believed was the parent of a minor, unaware that he was communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer. During those exchanges, Eldridge negotiated arrangements to engage in sexual activity with the child.

Investigators subsequently introduced another undercover officer posing as the minor. Eldridge continued the communications and engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the person he believed was a child. The interactions formed the basis of the federal attempted enticement charge to which he pleaded guilty.

The undercover operation allowed investigators to document Eldridge’s communications without exposing an actual child to the proposed encounter. The prosecution concerns attempted criminal conduct, meaning the government was not required to establish that sexual contact with a minor occurred.

Federal attempted enticement offenses address the use of interstate communication facilities, including the internet, to persuade, induce, entice, or coerce minors into unlawful sexual activity. The applicable statute also covers criminal attempts, allowing federal prosecution when the necessary intent and substantial steps toward committing the offense are established.

Eldridge faces a prison sentence ranging from 10 years to life, along with the possibility of supervised release lasting up to his lifetime. His sentence has not yet been determined.

U.S. District Judge Mark E. Walker is scheduled to conduct the sentencing hearing on January 14, 2027, at the federal courthouse in Tallahassee. The court will determine the appropriate sentence after considering the applicable federal sentencing requirements and information presented during the proceedings.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Ravelo is prosecuting the case, which was announced by U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin.

The prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative established in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. The program coordinates federal, state, and local investigative resources to identify offenders, address internet-facilitated exploitation, and protect children from sexual abuse.

With Eldridge’s guilty plea entered, the federal case now proceeds to sentencing. The January hearing will determine the prison term and any additional court-ordered supervision imposed for his attempted enticement offense.
