The United States has escalated one of its most aggressive international manhunts, raising the reward for information leading to the capture of fugitive narcotics trafficker Ryan James Wedding to $15 million—a figure reserved only for the most dangerous global criminals. Federal officials described the move as a necessary escalation against a man they say is responsible for more than a billion dollars a year in cocaine distribution across North America, backed by political corruption, cartel protection, and murder-for-hire operations designed to silence anyone who crosses him.
Wedding, once a Canadian Olympic snowboarder, has become one of the most elusive narcotics traffickers operating between Colombia, Mexico, and Canada. His transformation from athlete to international fugitive reflects the scale of his ambition and the violence he is willing to deploy to maintain control of a trafficking empire that allegedly moves hundreds of kilograms of cocaine at a time, routing shipments from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California before flooding markets across Canada and the United States.
Federal officials say the empire is protected by layers of cartel alliances, corrupt intermediaries, and a network of enforcers capable of extreme violence. In the latest indictments unsealed this month, U.S. authorities accused Wedding of orchestrating the assassination of a potential federal witness in Medellín, Colombia. The witness—expected to testify against him—was executed with five shots to the head. According to investigators, the murder was carried out before prosecutors could secure his cooperation, and the operation was allegedly coordinated with the help of individuals close to Wedding, including his own legal counsel.
At a joint press conference in Washington, D.C., officials from both the United States and Canada described Wedding as a narcotics trafficker on the same operational tier as infamous cartel leaders. They stated that his network was responsible for distributing 60 metric tons of cocaine annually, supported by the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, where he is believed to be hiding under their protection.
Federal agencies across multiple jurisdictions have now converged to tighten the net around him. The Justice Department, FBI, State Department, Treasury Department, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have aligned their investigative, financial, and international enforcement assets to disrupt his operation and capture him. Treasury sanctions isolated Wedding from U.S.-connected financial channels, freezing assets linked to him and choking off pathways used to launder drug proceeds. Diplomatic and foreign narcotics bureaus have increased support and surveillance across likely regions in Mexico where he may be operating under cartel shelter.
The FBI describes Wedding as a high-risk target: 6 feet 3 inches, approximately 240 pounds, and capable of altering his appearance if pressured. They warn the public not to approach him under any circumstances. Authorities emphasized that Wedding’s ability to evade capture so far is not a sign of weakness in the investigation, but rather a reflection of the resources and violent protection surrounding him.
This case is now one of the most closely watched manhunts on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, not only because of the scale of the narcotics trafficking but also because of the murder allegations tied directly to witness intimidation—a line federal authorities consider an attack on the justice system itself.
The reward increase marks a turning point. These figures are reserved for fugitives whose capture is considered critical to public safety and international stability. Federal agents made it clear: the window for Wedding to hide is narrowing, and the global investigative dragnet will continue tightening around him until the case is resolved.

On paper he’s one of the most wanted fugitives out there, but in public he can pass as just another person walking by.
