TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A federal grand jury in the Northern District of Florida has returned an indictment against a Florida airman stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, charging him with multiple child exploitation offenses tied to the receipt, distribution, and possession of illegal material.
Matthew Fooladian, 24, of Tyndall Air Force Base, was indicted on three federal counts:
- receipt or attempted receipt of child pornography,
- distribution or attempted distribution of child pornography, and
- possession or access with intent to view child pornography.
Federal prosecutors announced the charges Tuesday as part of an ongoing enforcement effort targeting online exploitation offenses involving minors.
Fooladian appeared for arraignment in federal court in Tallahassee, where he entered formal proceedings before a U.S. magistrate judge. The court has scheduled a jury trial for March 23, 2026, to be held before a U.S. district judge. Pretrial motions and evidentiary hearings are expected ahead of trial.
If convicted, Fooladian faces mandatory minimum sentences of five years on both the receipt and distribution counts, with maximum penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment on each charge. The possession count also carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison. Federal sentencing guidelines and statutory minimums would govern any penalties imposed following a conviction.
Investigators have not publicly detailed the scope of the alleged conduct or the timeframe of the offenses, though authorities indicated the case involves digital material transmitted and accessed through electronic means. Federal prosecutors emphasized that distribution charges typically reflect the sharing or attempted sharing of illegal content with others, elevating sentencing exposure under federal law.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, reflecting coordination between civilian and military law enforcement entities when allegations involve active-duty service members. Such cases often proceed through federal civilian courts rather than military justice channels when charged under federal criminal statutes.
Prosecutors noted that indictments represent formal allegations approved by a grand jury and are not evidence of guilt. As in all federal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
The case was brought under a broader national enforcement framework focused on identifying, disrupting, and prosecuting online child exploitation activity. Federal authorities continue to emphasize that investigations of this nature often involve complex digital forensics and interagency cooperation to identify offenders and protect victims.
The proceedings now move into the pretrial phase, where the court will address evidentiary matters and motions ahead of the scheduled jury trial.

It seems like almost every day lately there has been news about this problem. Who knows when this young man began his exposure to this type of thing and who knows how young some are when they become a slave to watching this type of thing. These crimes along with the distribution of child pornography should have long maximum possible sentences like this case. It gives the court the power to determine a sentence that fits the crime. I hope this person gets a fair trial and I hope the sentence fits the crime. And I hope he gets help for his problem. He is in bondage to something evil and needs spiritual guidance.
Thank you for the articles today, John. I hope you have a great evening. 🙂
You’re very welcome, Chris. You’re right that the frequency of these cases is deeply troubling, and the reality is that exposure often begins far earlier than most people realize. That’s part of what makes this issue so serious and so damaging.
The law needs the flexibility to impose sentences that reflect the gravity of the harm involved, especially when exploitation and distribution are concerned. At the same time, fair process still matters, and I agree that accountability and intervention don’t have to be mutually exclusive. These cases reflect both criminal responsibility and a profound moral collapse.
I appreciate you engaging thoughtfully with the article, Chris. I hope you have a great evening, as well as a great day ahead. 😎
Thanks for this reply, John. You have expressed exactly what my thoughts are about much of this type of thing. It is very sad that, as you noted, “exposure often begins far earlier than most people realize.” I don’t see how this is stopped because of all the different access routes to seeing this type of evil. It is one very bad result of the digital age we live in.
Thanks again, John, and for the kind words as well. I hope you have a great day ahead! 🙂
