BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for his role in a large-scale narcotics trafficking conspiracy involving cocaine and fentanyl distribution operations spanning multiple years throughout Western New York.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Torrance Bailey, 44, of Buffalo, New York, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to serve 138 months in federal prison following his conviction for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
According to federal prosecutors and evidence presented in the case, Bailey participated in a narcotics trafficking conspiracy operating between February 2019 and March 2024 involving significant quantities of cocaine and fentanyl distributed throughout the Buffalo area.
Federal authorities stated a major break in the investigation occurred in March 2020 when members of the Buffalo Police Department and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at a residence on Mills Street connected to the drug operation.
During the search, investigators recovered approximately 120 grams of fentanyl along with drug distribution paraphernalia commonly associated with narcotics packaging and trafficking activity.
Authorities stated Bailey and co-conspirator Sherron Kye were observed near the residence as law enforcement units arrived to execute the warrants. After noticing officers, both individuals attempted to flee the area.
Investigators stated Bailey discarded keys connected to the Mills Street residence before being taken into custody. Kye also discarded a bag during the attempted escape that authorities later determined contained approximately 100 grams of fentanyl.
Following Bailey’s arrest, law enforcement recovered approximately $3,512 in cash from his possession.
Federal officials stated Bailey was later released under court-ordered conditions and placed on home incarceration in June 2023 while awaiting trial proceedings. Despite those release conditions, prosecutors stated Bailey resumed narcotics trafficking activity.
According to the investigation, Bailey sold approximately 27 grams of crack cocaine in March 2024 to an individual cooperating with law enforcement authorities. Prosecutors further stated Bailey attempted to coordinate an additional fentanyl transaction involving approximately 88 grams of fentanyl by directing the cooperating individual to retrieve the narcotics from a co-conspirator’s residence. The individual declined to participate in the pickup operation.
Federal authorities continue warning that fentanyl trafficking remains one of the most significant public safety threats facing communities across the United States. Even relatively small quantities of fentanyl are capable of causing mass overdose incidents due to the drug’s extreme potency. Law enforcement agencies across New York State and nationwide have increasingly prioritized fentanyl trafficking investigations because of the drug’s direct connection to overdose deaths and organized narcotics distribution networks.
Co-conspirator Sherron Kye was previously convicted and sentenced in connection with the investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Timothy C. Lynch and Evan K. Glaberson.
The investigation was conducted by the Buffalo Police Department under the direction of Commissioner Erika Shields; the Erie County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff John Garcia; the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Brendan Dunford; the Drug Enforcement Administration under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam of the New York Field Division; and Homeland Security Investigations under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Anthony Patrone.
