HOUSTON MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL METHAMPHETAMINE TRAFFICKING CONSPIRACY FOLLOWING HOMELAND SECURITY TASK FORCE INVESTIGATION

A Houston, Texas, man has pleaded guilty in federal court to participating in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy following a multi-agency investigation conducted under the Homeland Security Task Force initiative, federal authorities announced.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, Indolfo Hernandez, 36, pleaded guilty on July 10, 2026, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Court records state that the investigation began in January 2024, when law enforcement identified a drug trafficking organization responsible for distributing significant quantities of methamphetamine throughout Texas and neighboring regions. Prosecutors allege the organization operated out of Houston while conducting trafficking activities within the Eastern District of Texas and that Hernandez served as the leader of the organization.

During the investigation, authorities seized more than 16 kilograms of methamphetamine that investigators say had been distributed by Hernandez and his co-conspirators. Methamphetamine remains one of the most widely trafficked synthetic narcotics in the United States and continues to present significant public safety concerns due to its highly addictive nature, links to violent crime, and devastating impact on individuals, families, and communities.

The case was investigated as part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF), an interagency initiative established under Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People Against Invasion. The task force coordinates federal, state, and local law enforcement resources to identify, investigate, and prosecute criminal cartels, transnational criminal organizations, foreign gangs, human trafficking networks, human smuggling organizations, and major drug trafficking operations. The initiative also places particular emphasis on crimes involving children and the prosecution of violent criminal offenders.

The Houston-area Homeland Security Task Force brings together investigators and officers from numerous agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), the DEA Beaumont HIDTA Task Force Group D23, the Houston Police Department, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, and the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office.

Federal officials continue to emphasize that dismantling organized drug trafficking networks requires extensive cooperation among multiple agencies capable of conducting long-term investigations involving surveillance, financial analysis, intelligence gathering, forensic evidence collection, and coordinated enforcement operations spanning multiple jurisdictions.

Hernandez now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment. His final sentence will be determined by the court after completion of a presentence investigation conducted by the U.S. Probation Office and consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory sentencing factors.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan C. Lee.

The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs for the Eastern District of Texas.
