TURTLE CREEK MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR PRODUCING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A Turtle Creek man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges involving the production and attempted production of child sexual abuse material.

Robert Bookshar, 49, was sentenced on August 24, 2026, by U.S. District Judge William S. Stickman IV.

Bookshar received a 20-year federal prison sentence, followed by 10 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to his victims.

Bookshar pleaded guilty in March 2026 to two counts of production and attempted production of material depicting the sexual exploitation of children.

According to information presented to the court, Bookshar communicated with an online criminal organization between approximately September 2021 and June 2023 that offered child sexual abuse material for sale through a social media application.

Federal prosecutors said Bookshar purchased live video calls involving two different female minors.

On May 12, 2022, and August 23, 2022, Bookshar paid for live video sessions during which he directed each minor to remove clothing and engage in sexual conduct.

Bookshar secretly recorded the video calls and stored the recordings on an external hard drive.

According to the government, each recording was saved inside a folder labeled with the name of the individual girl.

Bookshar also purchased additional child sexual abuse material using gift cards and multiple mobile payment applications.

The case shows how commercialized online child exploitation can extend beyond the possession or exchange of existing material. In this prosecution, Bookshar paid for live interactions and then recorded the abuse for his own retention.

Before imposing sentence, Judge Stickman criticized Bookshar’s conduct and expressed serious concern over Bookshar’s claim that he had not understood that his actions were harming real children.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Heidi M. Grogan.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI Crimes Against Children and Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes the Allegheny County Police Department, with additional assistance from the Tampa Police Department in Florida and the Colorado Springs Police Department in Colorado.

U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the sentence and credited the participating agencies for the investigation that led to Bookshar’s prosecution.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, the nationwide Department of Justice initiative created in May 2006 to coordinate federal, state, and local efforts against child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood combines investigative resources, federal prosecution, victim identification, and law-enforcement coordination in cases involving online exploitation and other crimes against children.
