Warden Teacher Sentenced to 15 Years in Federal Prison for Sexual Exploitation of 13-Year-Old Boy

SPOKANE, Wash. — A former Warden, Washington, teacher has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a 13-year-old boy, including producing photographs and video documenting sexual abuse of the minor.

Andrea Lee Campos-Hernandez, 26, was sentenced on August 26, 2026, after previously pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor.

U.S. District Judge Thomas O. Rice imposed a sentence of 180 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

The court also ordered Campos-Hernandez to pay a $10,000 special assessment under the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act and an additional $5,000 special assessment under the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.

According to court documents, Campos-Hernandez pleaded guilty to producing child sexual abuse material in connection with her sexual abuse of a 13-year-old boy between February 2021 and July 2022.

During that period, Campos-Hernandez photographed and recorded video depicting herself and the minor engaged in sexual intercourse. She also sent the boy photographs of herself partially nude and wearing underwear.

Federal officials emphasized Campos-Hernandez’s position of trust as a teacher following sentencing.

The abuse also had lasting consequences for the victim and his family.

During sentencing, the victim’s mother described hearing her son crying alone in his room during the night without initially knowing what he was experiencing or the extent of the emotional harm he was carrying.

“One of the most painful memories I carry is hearing my son cry alone in his room in the middle of the night,” she told the court. “I did not know what was going through his mind or how deeply he was hurting because he could not bring himself to talk about it.”

The victim also addressed Campos-Hernandez directly during the sentencing proceeding.

“Today I am speaking because you no longer get to control my voice,” he said. “You took away parts of my childhood that I will never get back.”

His sister urged the court to impose a sentence recognizing that child sexual abuse must be treated seriously regardless of the sex of either the victim or the offender. She asked for a sentence that sends a clear message that every child deserves equal protection, compassion, and justice.

First Assistant United States Attorney Pete Serrano said Campos-Hernandez’s role as a teacher made the violation of trust particularly serious.

“The sentence imposed in this case sends a clear message to anyone seeking to harm the children of our community,” Serrano said.

He noted that families entrusted their children to Campos-Hernandez through her position as an educator and said female sexual offenders must be held to the same standards of accountability as male offenders.

The FBI also emphasized the position of trust Campos-Hernandez held.

W. Mike Herrington, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Seattle Field Office, said Campos-Hernandez used both her role as a teacher and a family friendship to take advantage of the child.

Herrington credited the victim for coming forward and investigators and prosecutors for pursuing the case to its conclusion.

The federal case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Warden Police Department.

The Grant County Prosecutor’s Office separately prosecuted Campos-Hernandez for related state crimes and eventually participated in a global resolution of the state and federal charges.

Assistant United States Attorney Ann T. Wick prosecuted the federal case.

The prosecution was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, the nationwide Department of Justice initiative established in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The initiative brings together U.S. Attorney’s Offices, the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, federal agencies, and state and local law-enforcement partners to locate offenders, prosecute child-exploitation crimes, identify victims, and protect children from further abuse.

The case is identified in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington as 2:24-cr-00082-TOR.
