TALLAHASSEE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL BANK ROBBERY AFTER NOTE DEMAND LED TO $3,190 THEFT

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Tallahassee man has pleaded guilty in federal court to bank robbery after admitting his role in the June robbery of a Regions Bank in the city, where investigators said a teller was handed a demand note and approximately $3,190 was taken.

James Dalton Bryant, 54, entered a guilty plea to one count of bank robbery in the Northern District of Florida. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin announced the plea on September 22. Bryant now faces up to 20 years in federal prison, with sentencing scheduled for December 10 before U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle.

The case is no longer at the allegation stage. Bryant has admitted guilt in federal court, and the remaining issue is the sentence that will be imposed later this year.

According to court documents, the robbery occurred on June 22, 2026, only minutes after a Regions Bank location in Tallahassee opened for business. Bryant approached a teller and presented a note demanding money. The teller provided approximately $3,190 in cash, and Bryant then left the bank.

Investigators determined that Bryant had arrived as a passenger in a white Mercedes sedan and fled in the same vehicle after the robbery.

Detectives later identified the vehicle and interviewed its owners. Authorities determined that the owners were not aware of the robbery and were not involved in the offense. Information provided by witnesses and an anonymous Crime Solvers tip helped investigators locate Bryant.

When Bryant was arrested, investigators found him in possession of some of the currency taken from the bank. Prosecutors said Bryant also confessed to the robbery when questioned.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the Tallahassee Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric K. Mountin is prosecuting the case.

U.S. Attorney Heekin credited the Tallahassee Police Department with identifying, locating, and arresting Bryant and emphasized the federal government’s use of prosecution to address violent crime.

The case is being handled under Project Safe Neighborhoods, the Justice Department initiative that coordinates federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement against violent crime. The program is administered through U.S. Attorneys’ Offices across all 94 federal judicial districts and is tailored to local crime and public-safety priorities.

Project Safe Neighborhoods also operates as part of the broader federal Operation Take Back America framework, which the Justice Department uses to coordinate violent-crime enforcement and other national law-enforcement priorities. In the Bryant case, the federal prosecution centers specifically on the bank robbery admitted in court.

His sentencing hearing is set for December 10 at 10 a.m. at the U.S. Courthouse in Tallahassee before Judge Hinkle. Until that hearing, the final length of Bryant’s federal prison term remains undetermined.
