TWO ALEXANDRIA MEN SENTENCED IN SEPARATE FEDERAL DRUG AND FIREARM CASES

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Two Alexandria men have been sentenced to federal prison in separate cases involving methamphetamine trafficking and unlawful firearm possession, with both prosecutions handled under the Justice Department’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative.

On September 15, U.S. District Judge Jerry Edwards Jr. sentenced Terrence D. Taylor Jr., 28, to 102 months in federal prison, followed by six years of supervised release, after Taylor pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. On the same day, Judge Edwards sentenced Mikell Dewayne Boyd, 30, to 37 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, after Boyd pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm or ammunition while subject to a domestic violence protective order.

Taylor’s case began on May 9, 2024, when officers with Louisiana Probation and Parole and Louisiana State Police encountered him while attempting to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana, officers observed marijuana in plain view inside Taylor’s residence. Taylor told investigators there was a backpack inside containing methamphetamine and a Glock firearm.

A search warrant was then executed.

Investigators recovered approximately 27.87 grams of methamphetamine, an amount prosecutors characterized as consistent with distribution, along with a loaded Glock Model 42 handgun. The firearm was later determined to have been stolen.

Taylor had also previously been convicted of a felony.

The Taylor investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Louisiana Probation and Parole, and Louisiana State Police.

Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Daniel Siefker Jr. prosecuted the case, with assistance from Paralegal Specialist Denise Duhon.

Boyd’s case involved a different federal firearm restriction.

According to prosecutors, Boyd possessed a loaded Omni Hybrid .223 pistol and .223 ammunition on March 31, 2025.

At the time, Boyd was subject to a Louisiana domestic violence protective order that prohibited him from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Boyd admitted that the firearm and ammunition were in his possession despite the active court order.

The ATF and Alexandria Police Department investigated Boyd’s case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas A. Johnson prosecuted the matter, with assistance from Legal Assistant Tanya Broussard.

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller for the Western District of Louisiana announced both sentences.

Both prosecutions were brought under Project Safe Neighborhoods, the Justice Department’s nationwide violent-crime enforcement framework.

Project Safe Neighborhoods coordinates federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, prosecutors, and other public-safety partners through U.S. Attorneys’ Offices in all 94 federal districts. DOJ says the program is tailored to individual communities to address violent crime and specific public-safety challenges.

The Justice Department describes Project Safe Neighborhoods as a key component of Operation Take Back America, emphasizing rapid federal response to violent crime and criminal offenders, strategic law-enforcement partnerships, and accountability and deterrence through prosecution and other strategies.

Taylor will serve 102 months in federal prison followed by six years of supervised release.

Boyd will serve 37 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release.

The cases are identified in federal court records as United States v. Taylor, Case No. 26-cr-00047, and United States v. Boyd, Case No. 26-cr-00061, in the Western District of Louisiana.
