WASHINGTON — The FBI is investigating claims by a cybercriminal enterprise group that the fbijobs.gov portal was compromised and that FBI employee personally identifiable information may have been affected.
The Bureau said on September 23 that the source of the suspected breach has not yet been determined. Investigators are still working to establish whether the intrusion originated through a third-party provider supporting the jobs portal or within the FBI’s own enterprise environment.
That point remains critical. The FBI has acknowledged the criminal group’s claim and an active investigation, but it has not confirmed that employee PII was actually exposed or identified the precise system through which the alleged compromise occurred.
The Bureau said it is working closely with third-party providers that support fbijobs.gov as investigators attempt to determine the point of breach and mitigate potential risk.
At this stage, the FBI has not publicly identified the cybercriminal group, disclosed what categories of employee information may have been involved, stated how many individuals could be affected, or provided technical details concerning the claimed intrusion.
The investigation remains active, and the FBI’s current statement leaves the central questions unresolved: whether the compromise occurred through a third-party provider or FBI-controlled infrastructure, whether employee information was actually obtained, and what systems or data may have been accessed.
For now, the confirmed development is limited but significant: the FBI is actively investigating a claimed compromise of its employment portal and a possible impact to employee personal information while working with third-party providers to mitigate potential risk.
