MONROE, LOUISIANA — A 41-year-old Tallulah man has been convicted of two federal firearms offenses following a two-day jury trial involving a shooting incident, a police pursuit, and the recovery of a handgun equipped with a machinegun conversion device. Jason P. Peacock was found guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal possession of a machinegun, according to a November 5, 2026, announcement by U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller for the Western District of Louisiana.
The federal jury returned its verdict following proceedings before Chief U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty. Peacock, who had previously been convicted of a felony and was legally prohibited from possessing firearms, faces a maximum combined penalty of 25 years in federal prison. His sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2026, before Judge Doughty.
According to evidence presented during the trial, the investigation began on May 31, 2025, when Tallulah police received a report of gunfire. Victims reported that Peacock had brandished a black handgun at them before firing several rounds into the air and fleeing the scene. The reported conduct prompted a police response and a pursuit that led officers to another residence in Tallulah.
The homeowner informed responding officers that Peacock had entered her residence carrying a firearm before retreating toward the rear of the house. Officers proceeded to clear the property while attempting to locate him and secure the premises. Peacock eventually emerged from the residence and surrendered to law enforcement without further confrontation.
Following his arrest, the homeowner consented to a search for the firearm she had observed Peacock carrying. During the search, investigators recovered a black Glock handgun concealed inside a pot in the kitchen. The weapon was fitted with a machinegun conversion device, an attachment capable of enabling a semiautomatic firearm to discharge multiple rounds automatically through a single function of the trigger.
The homeowner confirmed that nobody residing at the property owned a firearm matching the recovered weapon. Her statements, combined with the circumstances of Peacock’s arrival and the location where investigators discovered the handgun, became part of the evidence presented to the jury.
Federal prosecutors also introduced recordings of telephone calls Peacock made while incarcerated. The recorded conversations formed part of the evidence presented at trial that established Peacock’s possession of the firearm beyond a reasonable doubt.
The machinegun conversion device was central to the second federal charge. Under federal firearms law, a qualifying conversion device can itself be classified as a machinegun because it is designed to transform a firearm’s firing capabilities. Possession of the modified Glock therefore formed the basis of both the felon-in-possession charge and the separate offense involving illegal possession of a machinegun.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Louisiana State Police, and Tallulah Police Department conducted the investigation. The agencies coordinated their investigative work to establish the circumstances of the reported shooting, recover the firearm, and develop the evidence presented during the federal prosecution.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Allison Foster and J. Aaron Crawford prosecuted the case, with assistance from Legal Assistant Amanda Morgan and Paralegal Specialist Emily Favrot. U.S. Attorney Keller announced the conviction on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana.
The prosecution was conducted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide Department of Justice initiative that coordinates federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to address violent crime and firearms offenses. The program operates through U.S. Attorneys’ Offices across all 94 federal judicial districts and focuses on coordinated investigations, prosecution of serious criminal offenses, and community-specific public safety strategies.
Project Safe Neighborhoods also operates as a component of Operation Take Back America, a broader federal enforcement initiative addressing violent crime and other public safety threats.
Peacock’s conviction establishes his criminal responsibility for possessing a firearm despite his prior felony conviction and for illegally possessing a machinegun. The case demonstrates the federal consequences associated with firearms modified for automatic fire, particularly when such weapons are possessed by individuals already prohibited from having firearms. His final sentence will be determined by the court on December 2, 2026.

and this is why the rest of us can’t have nice things 🙁
Exactly! It’s unfortunate that the reckless actions of individuals who disregard the law create problems for responsible, law-abiding citizens. Though, law-abiding citizens shouldn’t be punished for what others do. Thanks for reading and commenting. 😎
