TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — A 29-year-old Tallahassee man has been sentenced to six years and six months in federal prison for distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through a social media platform. Zachary Phillip Larson received the sentence following a federal investigation that uncovered thousands of illegal images on his cellphone and multiple videos he had uploaded online, according to a November 6, 2026, announcement by U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin for the Northern District of Florida.
Larson was sentenced for one count of distribution of child pornography, the statutory terminology used in the federal charge. The conviction resulted from an investigation conducted by the FBI and Tallahassee Police Department after authorities received information identifying suspected online distribution of material depicting the sexual exploitation of children.
According to the Justice Department, the investigation began in 2024 when the Tallahassee Police Department received CyberTipline reports generated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Investigators obtained court-authorized search warrants for Larson’s social media account and cellphone. The examination of those sources revealed evidence of the reported uploads and uncovered an extensive collection of child sexual abuse material stored on his device. Authorities identified 12,522 images of CSAM, including the videos that Larson had distributed through the social media platform.
The digital evidence established the basis for the federal distribution offense. The Justice Department’s announcement did not identify the social media platform involved, disclose the number of individuals who received the uploaded material, or specify the ages of the children depicted. Federal authorities also did not publicly identify the victims, preserving their privacy while documenting the evidence supporting the prosecution.
U.S. Attorney Heekin emphasized that distributing child sexual abuse material causes continuing harm to children whose exploitation has been recorded. Each additional circulation of such material can expose victims to further violations of their privacy and dignity, extending the consequences of the original abuse beyond the circumstances in which the images or videos were created.
FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Jason Carley also addressed the prosecution, emphasizing the importance of coordinated investigations involving federal, state, and local authorities. He stated that the FBI would continue pursuing individuals responsible for exploiting children and distributing illegal material, while working with law enforcement partners to identify offenders and protect victims.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christie S. Utt prosecuted the case on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.
The prosecution was conducted under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative established in May 2006 to combat the sexual exploitation and abuse of children. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, including its Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to investigate offenders, prosecute criminal activity, identify victims, and assist in protecting children from further exploitation.
Larson’s sentencing marks the imposition of federal punishment for the distribution offense documented in the Justice Department’s announcement. The case demonstrates the importance of CyberTipline reporting, court-authorized digital investigations, and cooperation between law enforcement agencies in identifying individuals who distribute child sexual abuse material. It also reinforces the continuing legal consequences of circulating exploitative content that perpetuates harm against children.
