MANCHESTER, England — Manchester Airports Group has confirmed a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to customer data connected to bookings and airport services across Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport, and East Midlands Airport.
According to Manchester Airports Group, an unauthorized third party obtained customer information associated with car park, lounge, and Fast Track bookings, along with in-airport Wi-Fi sign-ups.
The company said the exposed information includes email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers, and postcodes.
Manchester Airports Group stated that neither the company nor the affected system stores customers’ banking or payment-card details, and no financial information was exposed through the incident.
The breach affects customers who used services at Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport, and East Midlands Airport.
Manchester Airports Group said it moved to contain the incident after becoming aware of the unauthorized access, including restricting access to affected systems and bringing in specialist cybersecurity personnel.
The company also notified relevant authorities and said its Data Protection team is overseeing the response to ensure the investigation and remediation remain consistent with its legal obligations.
Passenger safety and aviation security were not affected, airport operations remained unaffected, and customer parking services continued to operate normally.
The company has temporarily suspended access to its online Manage My Booking service as a precaution.
Existing reservations remain valid, and customers do not need to take action unless they need to change a booking scheduled within the next 72 hours.
Manchester Airports Group has directed customers requiring urgent booking changes to contact its customer service team while the online system remains unavailable.
The incident creates a significant phishing and social-engineering risk because the exposed information can provide attackers with enough personal context to impersonate airport staff, booking services, parking providers, or travel-related businesses.
An attacker possessing an email address, phone number, postcode, or vehicle registration could potentially use that information to create convincing fraudulent messages tied to upcoming travel, parking reservations, lounge access, or airport services.
Manchester Airports Group has warned affected customers to remain alert for suspicious emails, text messages, and phone calls and to avoid opening unexpected links or attachments.
The company also stressed that it will never unexpectedly contact customers asking for payment-card information, banking details, or passwords.
Manchester Airports Group has contacted affected customers directly.
The company has not publicly disclosed the identity of the attacker, the initial access method, whether malware was used, or whether the incident involved ransomware.
It has also not identified a threat group responsible for the intrusion.
Manchester Airports Group has not publicly disclosed the number of affected customers in its official notice.
The breach is significant because Manchester Airports Group operates three of the United Kingdom’s busiest airports and manages large volumes of customer information through parking reservations, Fast Track services, lounges, and airport Wi-Fi systems.
The incident demonstrates how a cybersecurity breach affecting customer-service infrastructure can expose large volumes of personal information without directly affecting operational airport systems or aviation security.
Manchester Airports Group said it is continuing to work with specialist cybersecurity advisers and relevant authorities while taking additional steps to protect customers and systems.
