FORT MYERS MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 21 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ONLINE CHILD EXPLOITATION OFFENSES

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA — A 41-year-old Fort Myers man has been sentenced to 21 years and eight months in federal prison for multiple child exploitation offenses involving the online enticement of minors, receipt and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and transmission of obscene material to a minor. Rudy Perez received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell following his conviction at a bench trial on August 3, 2026, according to a November 3 announcement by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe for the Middle District of Florida.

In addition to the prison term, Perez was sentenced to lifetime supervised release and ordered to register as a sex offender. The supervised release requirement subjects him to federal oversight following his imprisonment, reflecting the seriousness of the offenses established during the criminal proceedings.

According to federal court documents, Perez used a social media application between January and April 2022 to persuade, induce, and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity. His conduct involved online communications directed at a child, forming part of a broader pattern of exploitation identified during the federal investigation.

The investigation developed after a social media platform submitted a CyberTipline report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in January 2025. The report identified suspected online enticement involving Perez and prompted further examination of his communications with individuals who had identified themselves as minors.

Federal investigators obtained a search warrant authorizing access to Perez’s social media account. During their examination, FBI agents discovered communications in which Perez solicited sexually explicit images from numerous users who had identified themselves as children. Several minors responded to those requests by sending sexually explicit material, according to the evidence described in court records.

Investigators also established that Perez transmitted photographs, sexually explicit videos, and images depicting adults to multiple users who had identified themselves as children. These communications formed additional evidence of his conduct involving the distribution of obscene material to minors through online platforms.

As the investigation progressed, law enforcement obtained a separate search warrant and seized Perez’s cellphone. A forensic examination of the device revealed child sexual abuse material, including numerous videos depicting the sexual abuse of minors. The digital evidence supported the charges involving receipt and possession of illegal material, alongside the offenses involving online enticement and transmission of obscene content.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes personnel from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The coordinated investigation involved the examination of electronic communications, court-authorized searches, and forensic analysis of digital evidence to establish the extent of Perez’s criminal activities.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Yolande G. Viacava prosecuted the case on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. Perez’s conviction followed a bench trial, meaning the federal judge evaluated the evidence and determined his guilt without a jury.

The prosecution was conducted under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Justice Department initiative established in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate offenders, prosecute criminal activity, identify victims, and assist in protecting children from exploitation. The initiative is led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, including its Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

Perez’s conviction and sentencing conclude the federal trial proceedings involving his offenses, with the court imposing a substantial prison term and lifetime supervision requirements. The case demonstrates the importance of CyberTipline reporting, digital forensic investigations, and cooperation among law enforcement agencies in identifying online child exploitation and holding offenders accountable under federal law.
